Yeah, I agree it's more like whining it out. Hopefully you won't have to hear the real CIO!

I do think the term CIO makes people think of screaming, hysterical crying when it is often more like 'complain-it-out', which could be grunting. :) Sounds pretty cute if you ask me!

For me, I think there's a "whining-it-out" and then CIO. My LO tends to whine more than full out screaming and crying. If he's just whining and making grunting noises, I will let him try to fall asleep on his own.

I don't know where the official line is but I don't love cio (but am not actually against it...) and find that with some babies the grumping thing can't be avoided, in my book it is not cio. The way I see it is if they are distraught they will let you know and grumping is not distraught!

Maybe! I mean, it sounds as though she's trying to figure out how to get to sleep but isn't crying-crying. Maybe you can try leaving the room to see if she notices a difference?

My DD has never been a good napper. But I am going back to work soon and grandma will be taking care of DD. I've been trying to get DD to take at least one good nap a day. I will put her in the crib and she grunts and fusses for about 15 min. I sit above the head of the crib so she can't see me to make sure she is Ok. She never cries though. Just grunts, fusses and moves around a lot. Is this considered CIO?
