It can be normal to test twice, especially if you have a history of GD or are overweight. But with no risk factors, no.

@Kemma: this is what I thought too!

It sounds like everyone that was tested early had risk factors... I think my doctor is just very overly cautious...

@pastemoo: yeah, this is my second pregnancy so I know that they usually test for it later in pregnancy. I found it odd that my doctor had me also do an early test when I don't have any risk factors. It's just kinda felt like a waste of my time :bummed:

I was tested in the first and third trimesters with my second baby since my first baby was so large (9 lbs 5 oz). I did not have GD with either pregnancy.

@Purpledaisy: everyone should be tested at around 26 weeks, no one gets a 'get out of jail free' card for that one. earlier testing is usually based on risk factors.

I was just tested once, at around 28 weeks. However, it was a 3 hour test. My midwife practice goes straight to the 3 hour, for everyone.

@Mrs.KMM:, @Mamasig: ok. I didn't get the results of my 1 hour test for at least a week. So, if I fail it in a few weeks then it looks like I will have three tests altogether.

I will be tested twice due to family history/ risk factors. My first trimester testing was a simple drink solution, wait a hour, and then blood draw. I passed. I read up on the "real" GD test that takes place between 24-28 weeks and that looks more involved with a few blood draws.

I was tested twice during my second pregnancy despite passing the one hour first tri test, never having had GD my first pregnancy, and zero family history of diabetes. My doctor tested again because she said I had gained a lot of weight and had an excess of fluid. Test was negative.

I thought it was odd that my doctor had me take a glucose test in the first trimester. At my appointment today she told me that I passed and that I would be tested again in my 7th month. I thought this was all weird because I have no risk factors. I went to a different doctor for my last pregnancy and she only tested me once at the beginning of the third trimester.

*poll is for the one hour test. Not if you had to go onto to do the three hour. For example doing the one hour and failing and having to do the three hour doesn't count as being tested twice.*
