They also poop on the run or in a hollow tree, so you will rarely see a pile of poop and it's likely all over your yard anyway. My husband is a wildlife biologist. Bird poop is naturally occurring and dog poop is an environmental pollutant that carries a lot more health risks. I spend a lot of time keeping my yard looking nice and I don’t need other people letting their dog pee or poop on it. This one particular incident, the dog clearly had soft almost diarrhea poop and I’m sure there was a residue so the thought of my daughter going out there and playing is super gross. And dogs sometimes goes on the wooded part next to the street (country road, no sidewalks), ours too, and it's just left there. He would always cross over into our yard and go. I was eating breakfast and happened to be looking out my window when I saw it happen. The neighbors had no idea. There’s like a small wall between the townhomes and for some reason the dog would always turn the corner and do his business in yard or on the wall. It drove me crazy. I don’t think it’s a big deal as long as it’s picked up. If it bothers you, get a fence.
