@cvbee: Vitamin A and Vitamin D ointment. I bought tubes of it at a local pharmacy. My pediatrician said that you should be able to see a red ring right below the tip. My DH is super careful about my LO's "family jewels" so he's been really good about making sure it doesn't get stuck. We're just following our ped's orders. :)

@cvbee: You really don't need to do anything about it in most cases, once the little boy gets older and starts pulling/playing with it, the foreskin will retract in most cases. In the infant stage you don't need to bother it.

Maybe it's just because im used to changing a girl but to me they seem much easier than boys. Whenever i change a boy im always so stressed that they will pee or that I didn't clean the parts right lol.

@cvbee: My friends warned me that boys' foreskin tend to stick to the tip and that I should monitor it carefully. Lo and behold, I noticed that part of his foreskin was stuck to the tip so I took him to the pediatrician and she detached it. She told me that it's pretty common and to always pull it back (gently of course) for a few seconds at every diaper change and apply A&D appointment on it. Haven't had any problems since, thank goodness. The detaching part looked pretty painful for my LO. :(

I think my son only peed twice while having his diaper changed...he's now 16 months old. We don't use wipes, just wet washcloths, which I wet in the sink, so they're nice and warm.

My son is also not circed, so I didn't have to pay any special attention during changes.

The hardest part about changing a boy's diaper for me was having to pull back the foreskin at every diaper change for a few seconds so that it doesn't get "stuck". Then I had to apply ointment to that area. Then I have to wipe around the penis and then the scrotum and then underneath the scrotum. ARG! I use so many wipes for every diaper change!

No idea about a boy but I always thought a girl would be easier. It is easy, in theory, to change DD's diaper --- if only she didn't hate diaper changes so much.

I found boys easier. I have three little boys and although they did pee when they were little I very rarely wasn't able to catch it. When I change their diapers I put the new one down before I take the old one off. That way if they started to pee I was already set with one to fold over and cover them up.

@honeybee. Try not using a wipe. The main reason they per is temperature change. If you take their warm diaper off and put a cold wipe on it it might actually be stimulating them. You could try those dry wipes maybe. The ones like what you get at thd hospital or even a dry wash cloth. That way you have coverage but not cold and wet.

Now that I have a girl it is way messier. There are way more nooks and crannies on a little girl. I am also always worried about cleanliness and UTIs. I have had trouble all my life with UTIs do I am worried about it with my DD.

@ Mr. Bee - A few minutes? He's only a couple weeks old, so I'm changing a poopy diaper every few hours. I try to always cover him up with a wipe while I'm cleaning him up, but sometimes he'll pee in the split second it takes me to remove the wipe and put on a clean diaper!

I was just talking about this! For me, it is so much harder to change DS's diaper than it was to clean up DD. With DS, I have to lift, shift and move everything around to make sure I get it all clean; DD just needed a quick swipe and she was done!

I'm also still learning how to change a boy's diaper without getting pee all over. I have to change his outfit, swaddle blanket, and changing pad cover at least once a day just because of all the errant pee, lol.

Which gender is easier to clean up, poop-wise?

I never found it hard to change Charlie. I actually find it more stressful to change Olive, because of chance of wiping wrong and helping start a UTI. But I've changed her less, so that could be part of the reason I find it more stressful.
