So we didn't push it again and she simply potty trained herself for daytime at about 3 (as in, literally did it herself, I had just left the potty out and she just started using it). Night trained was way later, almost 5.</p> <p>With my son, he was 2.25 and he was showing interest and so we tried, and he just got it in a few days. We didn't do anything by the book, just had diaper off/undies. Within 3 days he was night and day trained. It was pretty incredible and whatever magic occurred i still am thankful for to this day. Because I definitely had nothing to do with it.. It was PANDEMIC MAGIC. Toddler sleep has been even more of a challenge for us than infant, so the idea of messing with it was stressing me out. He asked again to use the potty this morning, but he'd already fully pooped in his diaper, so I just explained to him to ask next time *before* he went, and he nodded along so excitedly. DD night trained 2 years after potty training and it was easy peasy because I waited tillage was consistently dry on her own. He goes potty right before bed and when he wakes up but I am not messing with his sleep either. </p> <p>We never did the waking in the middle of the nigh with my older DS. He slept in a pull up until we noticed that it was dry most nights and then moved him to underwear. He mostly holds it but can get up on his own if he needs to now. My DS is still in a sleep sack in a crib. I've been trying to picture waking him up at night to help him go until he can hold it all night, and that would require taking him out of his sleep sack and that's going to really wake him up. *sob* Our current sleep issues are such that this really makes me cringe.</p> <p>@muffinsmuffins: I kind of been wondering if this is what will happen to us! He peed and pooped on the potty quite regularly for like a month just shy of 2 years old. I was like omg! This is so easy! But we weren’t quite ready to fully commit, so we just let him do this thing without pressure because we had a lot of other stuff going on. Then he just stopped for some reason and didn’t care anymore. Now he’s 2.5 and daycare is working with him because he’s been staying dry and showing interest and he’s doing awesome! He seems much more mature (for a 2.5 year old ha) so I think we will get more into it soon. In some ways, it was a great time to work on it compared to being a little older. We didn't have the same kind of willpower issues we ran into with my older daughter when she potty trained at 3.5ish. So that's a plus!</p> <p>On the other hand, I quickly discovered that potty training very young still took a LOT of parental involvement. Whereas when my older daughter potty trained around age 3-3.5, once she caught on, she could really take care of herself independently. Some of that might be more kid-specific though. We are taking his lead. He started Montessori at the beginning of January and has been loving it. His second week there, he asked the teachers if he could use the potty like the other kids. They helped him take off his pants twice that week when he asked to go potty, and he did both times! He did it once the following week after nap time. This morning, he came over and told me he'd gone #2 in his diaper and asked to use the potty. I brought him over, took off the diaper, and held him on the potty (we haven't bought a little potty yet, thinking we had time). He finishing going #2 in the potty, I wiped, and he flushed and washed his hands! </p> <p>I'm wondering if this is a window that we should be taking advantage of to potty train. He's clearly starting to understand the concept. My only hesitation was that I was going to give him more time between adjusting to school and potty training. We're also dealing with a tough stretch of sleep right now, with lots of crying at bedtime and early wake-ups at 5-5:30 every single morning that we can't seem to crack (I think he's overstimulated and overtired when he comes home from school because he's still adjusting). </p> <p>Thoughts? Is it go time for potty training? Hold off a bit longer? </p>
