It is nonstop chattering around here, but she is also pretty independent and can play by herself for a long period of time when I tell her, "mommy's busy" or "mommy can't play with you right now". It's just when I'm around she needs to tell me every little thing that she's doing. </p> <p>Sometimes if she catches me not listening to her, she'll even let out a big exasperated sigh and say, "Mommy! You're not listening to me! I'm not going to tell you anymore." LOL such a threenager. I just thought this was typical toddler behavior. </p> <p>During that playdate, I wonder if the reason why your son was doing that was because the other two girls had each other? So maybe that's why it seemed like the two girls were so much more independent? I like to try to explain and tell him as much as possible, but shen I get exasperated, I tell him to talk to papa. He is your typical energetic but sometimes shy kid who can talk up a storm once he comes out of his shell. </p> <p>Ever since I can remember (when he started to talk), he has always wanted mommy (me) to acknowledge EVERYTHING and ANSWER a million questions a day. Some days it feels non stop and I don't know what to do. I kid you not, he is saying the word "mommy" every 2.5 seconds!</p> <p>"mommy, remember the time when..."<br /> "mommy, look at that train"<br /> "mommy, can you come with me"<br /> "mommy, can you find my toy"<br /> "mommy, look at me jumping"<br /> "mommy, can I have that?<br /> "mommy, I want to watch a show"<br /> "mommy, can I have milk?"<br /> "mommy, read me a book"<br /> "mommy, look at the sky"<br /> "mommy, what is that you're eating"<br /> "mommy, my rescue bots are on a mission"</p> <p>you get the idea. Its all the time, even when my husband is right there. I literally have a headache right now because of how frustrated I was earlier that I couldn't have a minute of silence. </p> <p>I joked with the little guy that he's a real talker but secretly, I wanted him to be quiet!</p> <p>So, ladies, is it me? Am i just a horrible mom that I don't want him to talk sooooooo much...or is it fair to say he is a high maintenance kid?</p> <p>I was just on a playdate with two women whose daughters are about the same age as my son. (Granted they are girls and he is a boy) but I was constantly being pulled aside by my son to do this or that while the other moms were called once or twice to play with their daughters. I don't expect my son to not want me to play with him but sometimes I wonder if he's too dependent on me for everything every minute...</p> <p>so i'm just wondering...is it me? Am i being unrealistic in wanting my son to be more independent? Will he grow out of this phase or do I need to try and nudge him to be more self sufficient?</p> <p>Sometimes I would like to be able to have a conversation with another adult without hearing "mommy" 10x in a minute. </p>
