We have an Inglesina at our lake house and used to bring it to restaurants when LO was smaller. Now, he fits best in the regular highchairs so we don't bring it with us. I wouldn't say it's a necessity by any means.

We have the Inglesina chair but use it every day as his high chair since our island is huge and functions as our kitchen table. I think it's easy to get on and off. We have used it at restaurants before but that was when he was just learning to sit up and the restaurant high chair wasn't very supportive. That being said, I don't think the travel chair is necessary but it is nice to have.

@swedishfish: @Beehive: I have that seat as well, it's great! The only thing I would say is practice before you have to use it, it's not complicated, but it is a little wonky the first time you use it, especially if you're using a chair with an open back, which requires the second piece in the package.

I also don't think a travel highchair is necessary. We have the Inglesina Fast and we always bring it to my parents' house so LO can sit at the kitchen island, but like others have said, it would be a shame if you lugged the high chair to a restaurant only to find the table wasn't compatible with the chair. I would just use the restaurants' high chairs…and bring lots of anti-bac wipes!

We keep a Totseat folded up in our diaper bag, in case a restaurant doesn't have a high chair (or, as has happened in a couple places, where the high chairs are awful). It's a fabric seat that you put on a regular chair.

I was adamant at first that we get a travel high chair. Now, I am glad we didn't. We just use a cover on the restaurant highchair, and that works just fine. If a table has a lip or a table cloth, you can't use the twist on boosters. From our experience, we found that more restaurants than not have one or the other.

I never needed one. Last time we traveled, we just used restaurant high chairs. When we were at my grandmothers apartment I would just have him sit in my lap while he ate. We are going on a roadtrip in April and I will just bring our own high chair with us (we are renting a condo). I have the joovy highchair that folds up so it should be easy to travel with since we are driving.

I don't think it's "necessary" but definitely nice to have, depending on where you're going and how old your LO is. We got the Inglesina Fast too, and LOVE it! We've taken it on a few trips now and it's been worth the extra weight.

We started using it before LO was really good at sitting in a chair by herself, and even now, it provides more security and a cozier seat (like sometimes she just wants to flop to the side). She also doesn't try to crawl or stand up out of it, like she does in the wooden restaurant high chairs.

We also used it as her regular high chair in the vacation condos.

Nah, no need IMO. If we go out to eat around here we wouldn't bring one, so I wouldn't bring one on vacation. I could see bringing one if you were going to eat at a condo or something on a nightly basis... but if you're planning on eating out a lot, I'd just use the restaurant chairs.

I brought it on vacation and left it in the car just in case we needed it since it folds up really flat but I would nt buy one just for this trip - we use ours everyday at home as the high chair

@swedishfish: I don't think so. You just turn the two little stoppers until they're tight against the bottom of the table. The only time I've thought it a pain is if there is a lip on the table and it is positioned to where you can't turn your wrist all the way (if that makes sense). I don't find it a big deal, and for me it wasn't worth paying twice as much.

I think it depends on the set up. I ended up buying one before a vacation at 7 months because we were staying in a rental cabin that didn't have high chairs. I bought the Inglesina Fast Table chair and have loved it. It was cheaper than the P&T, and I haven't yet found a table with which it wouldn't work. We've used it a fair amount since - whenever we got to my folks' or my sisters', at a restaurant whose only high chair had a broken strap, at another restaurant where all the high chairs were in use, etc. We just keep it in the trunk as a backup plan. That said, it's a nice-to-have, not a need-to-have. LO could just sit in my lap in those situations.

I don't think it was necessary to have a travel high chair, but we used our Fisher Price Healthy Care booster seat at restaurants until our LO was tall enough to use the restaurant seats. We liked the booster seat because it had its own tray. It helped contain the mess, when we were done eating, we'd just snap the lid on the messy tray and go. The booster was also our at home chair too.
