It seems to be normal for my toddler. He's about to be 3 and it is still the case. DH apparently almost never slept through the night as a child according to my MIL.

My mom claims I woke up every night at 2am until I was 2 years old! They had to go in and rock me back to sleep.

We're having similar issues at 19 mo. Light night he screamed and cried, and DH and I took turns being in the room with him for 3 hrs before he would settle and go back to sleep. No advice, but plenty of "we're in this together."

I don't know what it could be. I always assumed it was teething, and then she got all of her teeth. Lately, I thought maybe she was cold, but that's not it. DH got up with her last night and she is happy and normal when she is up out of her crib. I was busy with DD#2 so DH took care of DD#1 and was up most of the night. He tried several times to put her back to bed but she wouldn't have it. He didn't want to let her scream too long because he wanted me to rest. We discussed it and next time we will let her CIO. Maybe it's night terrors? I really do not know!

My son has been doing this ever since he was sleep trained at 4 months... and he's now 4 years old. There is the occasional night when he doesn't cry at all (but usually still wakes a few times, maybe) and that's usually when he's had a nap. But it's pretty guaranteed that if he hasn't had a nap that day, he'll wake screaming/crying around 9pm and midnight.

He always goes back to sleep on his own after a minute or two, so I stressed about this a LOT when he was 2ish, but now I just realize that some kids are just more restless sleepers than others, and it gets worse when they're overtired.

My daughter is 18 months and she wakes crying almost every night as well, but it's less frequent than my son.

My son is three, he wakes up a lot and and first I was worried about it, but then I realized that both my husband and I are light sleepers in that we wake up at least once a night as well.

I am so used to it now, it's more rare that he sleeps through.

I have no idea, and DD is younger than your LO, but I wonder if she's getting to the age of night terrors?

I have no clue if it's normal, but LO (14.5 months) has been waking up in the MOTN for the past week screaming and us not knowing what is wrong. It sucks. This morning, she woke up at 4:45am screaming. I let her cry for 10 minutes, gave in, gave her some motrin thinking she was in pain or teething, that didn't work, resorted to giving her some milk...no dice. Rocked her and she finally fell back asleep at 6:45am!!! I have no clue what is going on. I always blame teething, lol.

We haven't experienced this exact thing, but I've heard from other parents of toddlers who are dealing with very similar issues. Our daughter is waking up crying at around 5 AM lately and just needs a warm blanket, her binky, and some white noise to go back to sleep for another hour or two. In her case, I know she's teething, so I'm pretty sure that's what is going on. Also, it gets pretty cold in her room, so sometimes she wakes up b/c she's chilly.

My LO is an awesome sleeper but around 20-22 months she would randomly cry in the middle of the night. I don't know if it's developmental or related to teething. I think I read somewhere that they start to realize they have dreams around this age. I know she hit a rough patch with separation anxiety too. It was probably once a week for a few months and nothing we did really helped other than letting her work it out...she would always fall back asleep and us going in would only prolong the crying. She would fall back asleep faster if we just let her work it out. Then as suddenly as it started she just stopped crying out..

DD, who is 19 months, wakes up crying almost every night. Most nights its for a minute or two, and then falls back asleep. Sometimes its so bad she screams until we can console her back to sleep. We get the odd night where she doesnt wake up but its rare. Any ideas? Is it the norm for this age? She seems fine otherwise.
