Yep, I've got an almost 3 year old and I've been so sick and tired. My son is so high energy and I can't keep up.

Sounds normal to me. I barely made it through the work day without desperately wanting a nap. Bed by around 9p. And I had some sort of sinus thing for a month, and 2 separate doctors wouldn't let me take anything for it since that was the most crucial part of pregnancy with so much growth so quickly.

Hang in there. Nap on weekends. Make easy dinners/get take-out.

Do you stay at home? Nap whenever possible. If your older child doesn't nap....nap during quiet time.

I feel like complete garbage this time. My last pregnancy was a cakewalk. I'm almost 10 weeks and it's just now starting to ease up. But even before I tested positive, I felt absolutely horrible.

With all 3 of my pregnancies I was basically a waste during the first trimester. I was so so exhausted I could barely function! When the second trimester hit I got energy back!

@Paddington10: Right there with you. It's an awful, exhausting feeling but one that likes to hang around. I felt this way the first time around and it may be worse this time, only because I have to keep up with a 3 year old too! Mine started this time around 7 weeks and is still going strong as I get closer to 10. Wishing you some extra naps and rest!

Yes! That's how I felt. Like I always had a hangover. Insanely tired, I went to bed between 8 and 9pm and I'm normally 11-12 bedtime. But it only lasted in the first tri.
I got a lot of energy and normal sleep pattern back for 2nd and most of 3rd trimester. So hopefully this won't last too long for you :-)

Sounds very normal to me! Taking care of a toddler and being newly pregnant is no joke! I was going to bed at the same time as my toddler for most of the 1st trimester. With any luck, you will feel more energized when you hit the 2nd trimester.

@Paddington10: Um. no clue if it's normal, but baby #2 hit me like a sack of bricks over the head. Puking, sleeping 3+ hours a night more than before, irritated because I was puking and sleeping and busy (because I slept through everything I needed to do) and so tired.
I hope you feel better soon.
Also, I made my son take a nap with me at least once a week... it was the only guaranteed peace and quiet, and we both ended up happier (he's a year younger than your oldest, though--not sure if that would work for you).

I think I spent my whole first trimester in a coma. Haha. It got much much better around 14 weeks, but the first part I was completely exhausted. I would come home from work and take a 4 hour nap, wake up to eat something, go back to bed and sleep until morning.

I'm pregnant again and this time I'm not as tired. Still tired, but functional. I get insomnia at night. It's better since I have a 2 year old to take care of and can't take massive naps this time haha.

@Paddington10: Unfortunately, I think the answer is yes, completely normal. I'm feeling the same (just shy of 6 weeks) and had the same experience with #1. Everyone always said "Oh, lucky you, you're not throwing up!"...but I felt like I had the flu for three months, which was totally uncool. Feel better, mama!

ETA: A "low-grade sack o'crap" is the best description for this time I've ever seen. Well done. Ha!

the first trimester of my second pregnancy was like this--it hit me like a ton of bricks and i was exhausted. it was around the holidays, and i had no energy to decorate, send holiday cards...i don't know how i made it through work. and i pretty much rolled into bed for the night right after putting my older one to sleep. things got much better after 2-3 months. i hope you start to feel better too!

@Paddington10: yes! It's because you can't nap any more! Lol or just ask DH to pick up takeout for dinner...every night. Oh wait, I'm talking about myself. Lol I was definitely more tired eith #2!

Oh my. I don't remember being this tired with my first (who is now 5). All I want to do is loaf around and nap!! I feel like I have a constant low-grade flu: headachy, queasy, and just plain lacking energy. Anyone else feel this way? I'm not throwing up, I just generally feel like a low-grade sack o'crap. I'm seven weeks. This started about a week ago. Anyone else? Any cures?! I don't know how I'm going to make it nine months like this!
