We made the area near the table off limits for playing (which he mostly obeyed) or we would put padding around it if he needed to be near it. We tried to use all types of corner bumpers for the fireplace, side tables, entertainment console and she just rips them right off. So yeah. When LO started pulling up we just moved the coffee table to the garage. We bring it back in for company. We can't put anything on it anyway since LO will snatch it so no big loss. If I were you, I'd absolutely skip a square/pointy one if you can. We had one with rounded corners (square) and LO was continually running into it, pulling up on it, lots of bleeding injuries. It simply wasn't worth it. We got rid of it and bought two soft poufs and a sofa table that works so much better for our lives, around when he was 11 months and just started pulling up. If we still had it, it's safe to say he would be leaping off of it like he does the poufs. SO glad we got rid of it. He then wiped out pretty good on the corner of it and had a nice triangle shaped bruise on his cheek. We also had a oval shaped one...DS and my nephew hit their heads on that multiple times too...so no table is 100%. LO learned quickly to watch her head, and it has not been a problem at all. If it's an issue, you can pad the corners until your LO is older. I would rather get something I like without all that. My toddler is a rough and tumble climber so speaking from that perspective. There are also bumpers and corner guards you can order online for square tables. We have a rectangular coffee table and (knock on wood) have never had an issue. LO is very cautious though; so she isn't climbing and jumping and running through the living room.
