Yes, I skipped a pumping session every so often with no impact to supply. In fact, sometimes I'd just get MORE milk than usual at the next pumping session.

Agree with @Mrs Green Grass: though - it depends on how many months pp you are... I think it's better not to skip any sessions in the first 3-4 months when your supply is being established, but after that it should be fine.

@Mrs Green Grass: Yes. I haven't been able to trigger a second let down yet. I've tried and I know that's the key but Ive not made progress so far. Kind of easier to take 15 minutes away 4 times a day than 30 2-3 times.

@Danizaur: You'll be okay to skip one. One thing I've done now is pump 3x during my work day (9:30, 12:15, and 3:30) and then if I need to top-up a bottle for baby for the next day, I'll just grab a quick session in the evening.

I also send 4 bottles to daycare on Monday, and LO drinks 3, so I'll leave the 4th there and just send 3 for the next day. So perhaps you can pump 3 bottles on Sunday to send for Monday, and then just send the extra from Monday back as bottle # 1 on Tuesday and then 2 fresh bottles along. Then you aren't worrying about getting 3 fresh each day, only 2, unless he happens to drink all 3 on an off day. If you end up pumping 3 full bottles, awesome! One to freeze! But if not, you're not stressed because you've got some "rollover" built in.

I don't pump, but I do skip nursing sessions when I have to take meds and DH will feed her a bottle. I'm too lazy to pump. So far it hasn't caused any issues.

Dear god yes. I would do it.... once every three weeks or so? Meetings, etc. got in the way.

@Alivoo01: Hmm. Maybe I can try 9, 12, and 3 and see if I get the same. I've been hesitant to try it. I'm such a newbie I question every breath I take about supply. lol

I say skip and go home to snuggle with your baby! For me, if I pump every 3 hours vs every 6 hours, I get about the same output (2oz vs 4+oz).

@Mrs Green Grass: Yup! I have to pump 4 times to get enough and that's the only times I can squeeze them in!

I wish I would know for sure that LO would only take 2 bottles so I could space them out and pump less but some days he needs that third one.

You pump EVERY TWO HOURS! Wow. In general I think it depends on how many weeks PP you are... But as a random once...yes.

Background: I send three 4 1/2 ounce bottles with T to the babysitters every day. 3/4 of the time he only takes 2. Sometimes he'll catch the third at the very end of the day (dad picks him up around 3:30) and his daddy has to wait for him to finish before he takes him home. I always send 3 just in case and freeze the third bottle if he doesn't take it. I work 8-4 and pump at 9, 11, 1, and 3 to get the 3 bottles (and usually a little extra).

Today has been busy and I've been missing my pump times and pushing them back all day. It's 2:15 and I just finished my third pump. If I did my 4th it would be almost 4 or even after 4 and I don't want to stay after work any longer than I have to! I am just 1 ounce shy of 3 bottles. I guess I could pump at 3:30 and get less than normal (I'll def get an ounce) but honestly I don't want to! Haha! I just want to go home to my baby (who will probably be ready to nurse shortly after I get there anyway). I still have the third bottle left over from yesterday. Can I just send that with him tomorrow and freeze my 1 ounce short bottle?

I don't want to do anything to mess up my supply. But this doesn't seem like a big deal...just wanted to see what HB thinks...if this is a bad idea or not. And this would only be a bad timing once in a while kind of day thing, I'll still be pumping 4 times a day on normal days.

And sorry if this is a really dumb question. But that's what HB is for! lol
