@Lindsay05: oh, good to know! thanks, I also (fervently) hope that

@redsmarties: @scg00387: This is exactly what R does - wakes up, eats like a crazy person (usually doesn't even open her eyes from crib - eat- crib) and then is back asleep, so MOTN wakings are still easy (knock on wood). Good to know you trained for the bedtimes and MOTNs didn't get messed up!

@lovehoneybee: also wanting to transition to crib for naps, gosh. so happy to hear it worked for you without having to do MOTN also

@bunnymommy: We sleep trained (no cry sleep solution) around that age so he would fall asleep on his own. It was life changing! I didn't mess with MOTN because he seemed genuinely hungry and they/it was easy. He dropped all feeds by 9 months on his own. Also, that was around when he dropped his third nap FWIW.

This is what we did. CIO for MOTN wakings was never something that I thought too hard about--we were wanting to transition him to his crib for both naps and bedtime.

I think at a year we were still at 2 night nursing sessions, and by the time he weaned at 15 months it was 1. He still wakes up sometimes, randomly, usually because he's super wet or (usually) has lost his paci.

@Foodnerd81: Oh man, that's giving me so much hope! Even if she gets down to one feeding (instead of 2), I would be seriously thrilled.

@redsmarties: Yeah, I tried weaning her from the MOTN feeds but shortening them by a minute or two-- she did not care for that. I finally decided it was easier to continue getting up for that one feeding until she dropped it on her own, than forcing the issue, and I'm THRILLED to tell you she dropped it right before 9 months. So, I truly hope your LO does the same. :)

We did naps and bedtime, but still haven't done MOTN wakeups at 8.5 months. Honestly, when she does wake up, she eats like a crazy person, then falls right back to sleep. So I'm okay with one or two wakeups, because it seems like she might still need them.

@bunnymommy: We didn't do naps, just night sleep. She was in daycare so it just wasn't possible to nap train. Her naps improved on their own, she just needed to grow out of her cat nap phase on her own.

For us, CIO helped with those MOTN wake ups because she learned to self soothe. Usually if LO woke up in the middle of the night we popped a paci in her mouth and she fell back asleep. Hopefully you get a good sleeper again ;)

@Foodnerd81: Ya - she's crying when I'm rocking her anyway and she's exhausted and not sleeping so I'm hoping CIO can't be worse - but I'm dreading it a bit. :bummed:

thanks so much - will try bedtime and then naps and see how we go!

We did this because we room shared until seven months, so CIO in the middle of the night wasn't really going to work.

Once she learned how to put herself to sleep, which took two nights, she naturally dropped down to one MOTN waking to nurse within the space of about a week.

@bunnymommy: yes, we did CIO it sucked, but she cried for less time than it was taking to sooth her. I did feel so bad but Dh reminded me that she was pretty miserable whether we were rocking her or alone in the crib, so we may as well leave her on the crib so the crying would do some good.

For us it worked better to do nights first, but keep up with nursing to sleep for naps, then once she was good with bedtime, tackle naps.

@Foodnerd81: thanks so much for replying - I'm so glad you said that! I don't mind the MOTN wake-ups (because they're so quick) but the bedtime is a killer.

Did you do CIO? Was it brutal?

That is exactly what we did, for exactly the same reasons. Worked fine for us-- after a few days she figured out how to fall asleep by herself, and could go back to sleep if she woke up within a few hours of falling asleep, but not after that first stretch, when I would need to go in and nurse her. She kept up with the one, sometimes 2, MOTN feedings until a few weeks ago when she started phasing them out on her own. Now, at 9 months, she STTN most nights!

I feel like the falling asleep and MOTN wake ups are two different issues that need to be tackled differently.

...for bedtime and naps but not for MOTN wake ups?

LO has just turned 6months and went from being a great sleeper to a not-great one. She still isn't too bad but bedtime and naptime are killing us.

She has always nursed/rocked to sleep and can't put herself down. I spent two hours rocking/shushing/patting/nursing her to sleep for a 30min nap on Friday and it's so awful. She's exhausted but wont sleep  :bummed: She sleeps okay overnight when she finally goes down (6-9 hours) and only usually has one MOTN wake up so I'm not too fussed right now about weaning that feeding or anything.

But will it be confusing for her if we sleep train for naps and bedtime but not for MOTN wakings? Any advice?
