@Rainbow Sprinkles: DS2 was on caffeine as a medication for a while to help with remembering to breathe. He got 1 ml a day of straight up liquid caffeine, and the side effects he had were jitteryness, shaky limbs, and trembling mouth. He never had any problems sleeping. I don't think the small amount she's getting through your milk could be affecting her that greatly. Justmy 2 cents.

I think it could be the caffeine personally. But I didn't drink any and lo didn't nap or sleep much until she was almost 9 mo. OP didn't you just post about how your lo did nothing but sleep?

@Rainbow Sprinkles: I highly doubt it's the caffeine. After our experience and how little ds slept, I think it could be a food. But that's just because of the changes I saw.

@Ash: possibly? I have cut out dairy, soy, and wheat. We are going to reassess with her GE in three weeks and then possibly cut out fish, eggs, and nuts based on how she is doing by then.
Things are so much better than they used to be in terms of her crying and pooping situations, but still really bad in the sleep department.

I never drink caffeine and ds was like this too... I think it was caused by gas because he did a 180 when I stopped breastfeeding and started nutramigen. Since your dd has severe food allergies, do you think it could be that?

B was the same way as an infant and I rarely drink coffee. He would refuse to nap and stay awake for 5-7 hour stretches most days. He eventually grew out if it but it was a loooonnnggg several months.

I can't drink caffeine or DD won't sleep. I've tried a few times (because I thought it was all in my head) and every time I try, my usually great sleeper won't sleep.

Some kids are more sensitive than others...just like some people are really sensitive to caffeine while it has no effect on others.

Some children can be wildly effected by caffeine when nursing, even in small amounts, while others could care less. I would suggest cutting it out for a week and seeing if it changes. The only real way to know, is to eliminate.

@Rainbow Sprinkles: Caffeine doesn't seem to affect DS and since you've always drank it, I don't see why there would be a change now. Some kids just don't like to sleep, which is horrible to say but I've got one of those.

@Rainbow Sprinkles: According to this Kellymom article it is, but you'd have to be drinking a LOT of caffeine! How much are you drinking? If it's just a cup or two then I highly doubt that's what is causing it. Is he actively trying to put her down, or just hoping she'll fall asleep on her own?

BEES! I need your help.

For the past week, my three-month old has been refusing to sleep during the day. I am not kidding, she will go seven hour stretches during the day without sleeping. During this time, she refuses to lay her head down. It is almost as if she can't sit still. She is just super uncomfortable, tense, and fusses on and off (occasionally screams the entire time she's awake, but that's more rare).

This morning while I was at work, my husband called and said she had been awake for almost five hours. Her eyes were blood shot and she had puffy circles under her eyes, but she wouldn't sleep. He told me that he thinks it is because I had coffee, and the caffeine is keeping her awake.

Is this possible? Will cutting out caffeine make her be able to sleep better?
If not, why is she being so crazy and making my life so difficult? How can a three-month old refuse to sleep?
