Looking back now, I really think the first 6 months post partum were a period where I slipped in and out of mild depression. There were some days my moods were really high and happy, but on other days, I'd cry to the lullaby CD we played for our son.

If I could do things over, I would have made a quick visit to my OB just to check things out. At my 6 week PP visit, it turned out my iron levels were dangerously low, so I was advised to take a supplement (Floradix) which made things much much better.

Doesn't hurt to talk to your OB about it. I remember it being so tough with my first, especially without any help. Hope it's just bc you just have so much going on. Forget the house mess and weed and take your little one for a walk instead to get some fresh air every time you feel this way. And going back to work may be really tough but it could also give you the break during the anytime that you need. Hope you feel better soon.

Could it be you're just overwhelmed? Because my LO is almost 3 months and let me tell you, I feel no urge to weed or trim any bushes because I'm just too tired! It would literally kill me if I tried doing any of those things right now. I think you might be a little hard on yourself. 3 months isn't a long time and it's not fair to compare yourself to your pre-baby routine. Mommies need rest, especially new Mommies.

I also felt incredibly overwhelmed when my lo was around 3 months and wondered if i had ppd. I think the sleep deprivation finally caught up to me, but after getting some relief from overnight duties just for a couple nights and forcing myself to nap with lo everyday, i felt better. Also agree with others that parenting can be exhausting and there are just good days/weeks and bad days/weeks.

I felt like that around then, too. I think the sleep deprivation was the main culprit. It's also very stressful having a new little one! Hang in there and try to reach out and get some help so you can do small things for yourself, or even take a nap! ((hugs))

I definitely think it's possible - at at the very least, could be depression and not necessarily post-partum depression.

I would check in with your doctor - it could be anything, from sleep deprivation to stress to actual depression - but that is how I felt when my diagnosed depression started in March (diagnosed April) and I totally let it snowball.

Hugs!!

You can be diagnosed with ppd anytime until baby is 12 months. It sounds llike you are having a hard time, andi agree with pps that checking in with your doc is a good idea. However, parenting can be really draining so there may be days or eeweeks like these with or without a formal diagnosis--i know i have had them. Be gentle with yourself too--it sounds lie you have a lot going on!

You sound overwhelmed with all the changes going on and maybe you're more depressed about going back to work and leaving DD at home? Definitely talk to your doc if you can't back into the swing of things!

Definitely! Especially when you have overwhelming things going on on top of the infamous sleep deprivation.

Are you still taking your prenatals? I had been forgetting to take mine & was starting to think I may have been ppd so I started looking for natural depression remedies... lo & behold my prenatal has most of them so I do my best to remember them now and it's really helped.

I would definitely talk to your doctor if you don't start feeling more like yourself soon. =)

The answer is yes. I hope you feel better soon!
Sometimes it takes 3 months of sleep deprivation before everything comes crumbling down.
I don't know if you have it or not (not a doctor) but I can definitely recommend seeing a doctor. Good luck!

Oh man. I've been feeling pretty dumpy this weekend. Just sad. I have a lot of things I'm thinking about - going back to work Tuesday, a broken tooth, my mom coming to stay for three weeks and lots of little things in the house I just haven't gotten done. I look at the bushes out front, know I should weed and trim them but I'm too tired to do it. I keep up with the major things inside but all of the little things are not getting done. I thought about going to a park today but never moved myself to do so.

I know I have the time to do these things, M is a great baby and will play alone a lot. My husband is a a huge help, too. I just see all of these things I need or want to do and would rather sit on the couch and do nothing than do anything. So I do nothing. I took a 2 hour nap today and don't feel any different. I still just feel down.

This is so not like me. Is it possible to get postpartum depression late? Or am I maybe just having a bad couple of days? Anyone else felt like this a few months after the birth of your baby?
