Way easier than cleaning a circumcised one IMO--no need to worry about vaseline or making sure it doesn't stick! We were told to treat it like a finger.

No, it's not that hard.

Having said that, we will still be circumsizing.

Not at all. I nannied for both circ'd and intact baby boys and neither were hard to clean. You wash it like a finger, like any other body part.

Some people think you have to retract the foreskin, but that's dangerous and unnecessary.

Not at all. I honestly haven't done anything to it - he takes a bath every night and it seems to be enough to just sit in the water. We've never had a problem with it.

My son and husband are not circumcized. We don't do anything to clean his penis other than wash it like what others described like a finger - I really don't mess with it (don't pull foreskin back) and generally just bathe the area like I would any other body part. Lather in soap but nothing else.

Totally easy, just wipe it down. I like @ballerinabee: 's explanation.

Easy peasy cleaning. Just wash like you would any other part of the body. Nothing different required until foreskin retracts naturally. I'm told a lot of boys' foreskins don't retract completely until around puberty, but I haven't researched this yet.

Nope! Clean as usual. Never, ever, ever let anyone forcibly retract the foreskin. If whitish material comes out of the opening, that is smegma (skin cells, etc) and not infection. If the foreskin ever gets red, irritated, and swollen, it is usually NOT an infection but just plain irritation. (Management is generally the grandma management: soap and water.)

Just know that some pediatricians might freak out and say that he needs to be circumcised when it gets irritated, and 99.9% of the time, there is no need or indication.

Likewise, if the tip is so narrow that the foreskin balloons out when he pees, a little bit of steroid cream (not over the counter) will resolve that problem the vast majority of the time.

As others have said, just leave the foreskin alone and clean it regularly. We haven't had any issues.

Nope! You clean it like a finger, is how our pediatrician taught us. Never retract baby's foreskin. Our LO did have some diaper rash on the foreskin that made me worried that it might be infected (he sat too long in wet diapers at daycare, which is a whole different topic...), but the pediatrician checked him out and said it was just run-of-the-mill diaper rash and that we could put regular rash cream on it.

I've posted before about being on the fence about circumcision, and as it stands right now, my husband and I area leaning towards not doing it. However, one of his biggest concerns is that it's going to be really hard to keep clean.

Everything I have read hasn't really sounded like keeping it clean is all that difficult. It seems like up until the foreskin retracts when they are a bit older, you don't even have to do anything different. Am I wrong about this?

So ladies with uncircumcised sons - is it that hard to keep it clean? Is there anything "extra" we have to do that we may find difficult or cumbersome?
