If you aren't comfortable with the care you are receiving (which it sounds like is the case) then get a second opinion. DH was being treated for 3 years for an issue which kept reoccurring. He asked the treating doctor if they should look at other treatment options and kept being told no. I finally forced him to get a second opinion and it turns out the initial issue was only part of the problem and he needs surgery which should stop both issues in one treatment.

@chibee: so glad everything is making more sense. I know a really heavy period can be alarming. After two kids and a m/c, my periods are super heavy now, and the first few times (especially after the m/c), it would really freak me out.

@chibee: Ok, glad to hear that you and your doc think this is normal/AF! My first AF post D&C was on the heavier side too, so that seems to make sense. Good luck with everything!

Just a quick update in case anyone searches for D&C related posts in the future (I know I searched high and low everywhere on the internet!) - the bleeding has continued (not as heavy, thank god, but still a LOT heavier than what my normal period would be) and I still have it today, and after a discussion with my dr, I am pretty convinced (and she is too) that this is actually AF! Also, I FINALLY got a negative HPT on Sunday, 2 days after this bleeding/AF started.

So I'm glad my body is doing something other than just freaking out and being weird. Thank you everyone SO much for your input!!

My HCG didn't get down to zero until 4 weeks after M/C. I didn't take HPTs after the loss, but they would've still been positive if I did. Cysts can cause intermittent bleeding/irregular periods. It wouldn't hurt to see another healthcare provider for a 2nd opinion, however. Hope you feel better soon and figure out what's going on!

@chibee: I would def seek another opinion. My doc had me go in for blood tests for several weeks after my natural mc to make sure HGC levels were declining appropriately. I hope you get answers soon!

A similar thing happened to me although it wasn't 5 weeks past D&C. Turns out my doc missed some of the pregnancy "tissue" and my body was trying to expel it. I didn't need another D&C but at 5 weeks post I'd be pretty concerned. If you aren't passing tissue left behind, it could lead to infection.
And I obsessively took wondfos until I got BFNs. I had a BFN about 3 weeks post D&C. Granted everyone's body is different, but it still sounds peculiar to me. You know what they say...better safe than sorry!

@sarac: @mfa_lady: I kept bringing up the positive HPTs every time i saw my OB and she didn't seem concerned! She said it is possible to have hcg up to 6 weeks post-D&C, and didn't offer a blood draw to check levels or anything. I am really frustrated. The heavy bleeding continues tonight - i was at the movies and almost had to leave because the cramps were so bad and i am still passing clots. I am so close to going to the ER but it's not quite soaking 1 pad per hour.

Thanks for the reassurance, I just don't feel right. This is kind of a nightmare. I think i'll first call my OB on monday, just to let her know what's going on, and see another dr regardless.

Definitely get a second opinion! I got a negative hpt 3 weeks after my natural mc & I was 12 weeks along! Your levels should have dropped by now & you could have a piece retained too small to catch on sono

I think anytime you start to question your Dr. is time for a second opinion. You need to be able to trust your Dr. And if you don't for whatever reason find one you do.

hi, lady. i'm so sorry you're going through this. have you tried to get your doctor to take blood for HCG? i'm currently waiting to miscarry naturally after getting some rough news last week, and my midwife said that when that happens, they'll get me in soon after the actual miscarriage to make sure HCG goes back to zero. she made it sound like in a normal situation, that should happen pretty quickly - and if it didn't, we would move to further measures to get things "cleared out," for lack of a better way to put it. she emphasized that this needed to happen (back to zero HCG) for my body to re-regulate and understand that i'm no longer pregnant.

if you're still getting positive pregnancy tests and having bleeding, i agree with you - it seems like something isn't happening as swiftly as it should. i haven't posted on HB for ages, and while i am no expert by any stretch of the imagination, i saw this post and thought that the info my midwife told me may help you with your decision-making.

will be thinking of you - hope all is sorted out soon. xo!

I'm not a dr, but I would definitely get a second opinion. Despite the sonograms, it sounds like you could potentially have some retained tissue or something.

I'm not sure if cysts cause bleeding like that though, so I suppose that's possible. The continuing positive hpts worry me though ;/

I'm not sure which board to put this under..

I had a D&C 9/6. I had "normal" bleeding which tapered off to spotting the first two weeks following the procedure, and my 2 week follow-up visit went well and even received the green light to continue to ttc. Then, 3 weeks post, i had an episode for a couple of hours when i just gushed blood and passed some sizable clots. OB told me it was AF. It was not. a week later, same thing happened. Finally ob brought me in for a sono, told me the lining looked good and everything looked fine except for a cyst on my left ovary which she will have me come back in 6 weeks to look at. Then this bleeding/passing of clots episode happened AGAIN last night - if my sono was clear, what the hell is going on? This is for sure not AF as it seems to have slowed to a stop once again. This is always right after i feel a lot of cramping, then i know the bleeding/clots will follow.

My ob has yet to tell me anything of note - if my sono was clear, what am i still passing? Is my cyst to blame? Do i need a repeat D&C? I am still getting faint positives on HPTs. It's now 5 weeks and 1 day post my D&C procedure. Would you seek a second opinion? This intermittent bleeding seems incredibly strange to me, and my dr has yet to take me seriously.
