I'd say that if she's taking short naps, stick with the three until she's able to nap longer than 1.5 hours. At least that's how I do it. My almost 7 month old takes 2-3 naps a day depending on the duration of his naps. If he takes two short, less than an hour naps then I'll put him down for a third for an hour at most. If he takes a 1-2 hours first nap and a 2-3 hours second nap, then that's it for the day. It also depends on what time he wakes up for his second nap. If it's 4pm then I'll have to put him down for a short third b/c he doesn't sleep until 9:30pm. He has an awake time of 2-2.5 hours now. I know, this nap schedule is so crazy sometimes!

@Mrs. Bee: my hope was that dropping a nap would make the other 2 naps longer. :/ hopefully this is just a phase then and her naps will get better as she gets older!

@Mrs. Bee: :) I like this insight.
I don't "drop" naps. I let him nap when he gives me sleepy cues which is anywhere from 1-4 naps per day. I stay at home so I can do this. If I were back at work I would probably force a schedule on him.

@jennylynn: i think she still needs 3 naps since her naps are short. olive's schedule was very similar and until she started taking longer naps, she wasn't able to drop down to 2 naps (at 8 months).

@Mrs. Bee: she goes to sleep at around 730, wakes at 730 to nurse and sometimes dozes back off until around 830. First nap is usually at around 1030, second is usually around 130, and the last is usually at around 330. They are usually around 30-45 minutes long.

what is her schedule? i would lean towards no since she's taking 3 short naps.

LO is 6 1/2 months old, and she has been taking 3 30-45 min naps a day now for a few months (she's never been an awesome napper). Well, for the past week she's been fighting her last nap, and it's only been around 20 minutes lately. Does that mean she's ready to drop down to 2 naps a day? And how do we transition smoothly if so?
