Unless there was a specific reason to start now, I'd probably give it up and wait another month or two. Once they start solids their poop gets really gross. I'm in favor of putting that off :)
We waited till 6 months to start LO on solids; he was kind of meh the couple times we gave him oatmeal (our ped said that since he wasn't a frequent pooper to start out with, we shoudl do oatmeal instead of rice cereal), but then we let him try banana and it was the best thing ever.

We tried rice cereal with DD at 4 months and she did the same thing. She didn't really catch on until about 6 months when we started introducing purees.

With DS, we're trying to hold out until 6 months, and then we're going to skip the rice cereal all together. I don't know if you've tried it, but that stuff tastes horrible; no wonder our LOs don't like it!

We started at 6 months and my LO did the same thing. She pretty much spit all of it out. I think she just didn't understand how to swallow yet, it's a new thing for them and they have to get used to it and learn how. It took her over a week to get the hang of it.

Our ped. gave us the go ahead to start LO on rice cereal this month (she's 4 months old). I've tried it a handful of times now but she seems to really dislike it. She'll tolerate it, but she makes a yucky face after each bite, and winds up spitting about half of it out and turning her head away from the spoon. Does this mean she's not ready for solids, or could it just be she doesn't like the taste?
