It was unseasonally warm the January following my son's birth, so we took advantage and went out as much as possible.

I imagine with another child, it's not so easy to stay indoors and cocoon, though!

I had mine end of march, but I was stuck at home taking care of twins. Too scared to go out. So wouldn't have bothered me if they were born in winter/fall....

I liked having a winter newborn but I'm in so cal so it wasn't bad. But I'm happy that R is going to be bigger when it's hot out because I'm crazy about her being in the sun right now (4 months) and I would worry about a newborn over heating.

LO was born in February so it kind of worked out that by the time I felt comfortable bringing her out more, the weather wasn't as bad. It was hard with this terrible flu season though. I was definitely paranoid once I did bring her out. It sucked to have to bring her to the doctor in those early weeks when I was afraid of sick people in the office.

Yes and no.

Chloe was born at the end of October, and I had a c-section and wasn't eared to drive until my 8 week PP check so it wasn't like I could go anywhere on my own anyway.

I was also worried about cold/flu/rsv season and didn't like to go out unless I absolutely had to. We had a rough winter the year she was born and I'm a terrible snow driver, so I played it safe and didn't go out much the first year. Plus, bundling her up just to get groceries? No thanks!. I admit I had cabin fever and welcomed visitors with open arms!

This last winter was much easier!!

I think it depends on your personality. I hate going out during the winter months so when LO was born in early January, I loved having the best excuse to not have to go anywhere. I don't get cabin fever really but I can see if a new mom wanted some fresh air or was used to being out and about more, it could feel rather isolating.

We had a February baby right in the middle of RSV season. It was really tough for us to see her get so many respiratory illnesses. Our first daughter was born in May and didn't get sick for 18 months.

Yes and no. For the most part I didn't mind it. It's quite nice hibernating and snuggling up with a newborn. I kinda felt bad for those braving the cold while I'm all nice and toasty indoors. Hehe. But there are moments when I did get cabin fever. It was mostly when DH had to go away for two weeks for work and I had to take care of a two month old all by myself. That was tough! I remember wishing it was warmer out so I can at least get some adult interaction!

I didn't mind having a mid-October baby - we're in NYC and still got out quite a bit - all we had to do was bundle the baby in the stroller and he was good to go. But when I didn't feel like leaving the house, the cold provided a good excuse / justification to myself! I think it would have been much more difficult if it snowed a lot this past winter, then taking the stroller out would have been a challenge.

DD was born on 10/28 in New York City. I think we had a prett mild fall because I was able to get out a lot. I do remember walking home from a mommy happy hour with the baby and slipping and sliding on some ice. I made a point to get out at least 3 times a week, even for just a stroll around the block with the dog.

I didn't mind it at the time. Now, with an active toddler and me needing much more exercise to be happy, it would be harder. Thankfully I live in Portland, where it rarely gets very cold.

We live in MI which is pretty much Canada ;) I had LO mid-oct and it was good & bad:
Good:
- got to stay home and cuddle and just relax inside
- holidays were fun because we dressed LO and took tons of pics
- made tons of stews and roasts and winter foods which were awesome feeling on those cold night when is be staying up with baby

Bad:
- fear of illnesses
- always had to bundle up LO
- scared to drive because of ice
- very bored e cause it was too cold to go out
- took longer to get in shape because I could go walking/jogging/biking outside

DS was born in May but it was a huge heatwave and I wasn't allowed outside much... I went pretty stir crazy and had to beg people to come over to "see that baby" (entertain me).
I know May is definitely not the winter but you can go stir crazy with a newborn at any time of year.

I hope you have plenty of people to visit--and warm clothes and blankets so you can go out every one in a while.

I had my older daughter on Halloween of 2009, in Edmonton. It was cold...in fact about a month later, Edmonton was hovering around -40 and was the coldest place on earth (save for an unpopulated area in Siberia). It was the best, though. I didn't feel like I was missing out on 'fun' in the sun, I gave myself lots of time to get the hang of motherhood and I was ready to hit the town when spring finally arrived!
That being said, it was easy to feel lonely. So I sought out things like an indoor strollercize class, Salsa babies, etc. It was great, and lots of mamas were in the same boat as me...and aside from the Christmas rush, there weren't a lot of other family obligations so the babies and mamas were together all the time. It was great.
Enjoy it!

I honestly didn't think it was that bad. LO was born mid Oct and we're in NY so we do get a real winter...we were still out almost every day, we just bundled up! I did feel a bit more paranoid about colds and flu germs, and the constant layering was a bit annoying, but other than that it was great! I especially loved not having to squeeze into summer clothes right after having a baby! Sweaters and leggings were my friends.

LO was born end of september. I found it easier to be honest...they don't do much, so it's not like they're getting antsy - and it's easier to bundle them into the bucket seat and then go out. I transferred LO to the convertible seat at 5.5 m, at the end of march, and we had some freezing days. it was such a pain to bring her out there wrapped in blankets, then buckle her, then cover her again. I missed the bucket seat!

@Rubies: We are pretty exact in climate (lol the half hour between us), and C was born 10/20! I went stir crazy the first bit, but eventually got to bundling us up pretty good and once she was beyond the initial few weeks we were out 2-3 walks a day in the stroller.

The extreme cold days in January we of course skipped (those days we went for drives, or to the mall, lol).

I made sure that I kept a pretty busy schedule -getting out of the house made such a huge difference for me.

FWIW come this time next year she is getting to be so, so, so much more fun (not that before wasn't fun) and the nice weather is just such a bonus. It's nice to not have to layer up!
