I've been to an all-inclusive in DR and none of the 6 of us on the trip had any issues whatsoever and we ate anything and everything there!

You should be fine!

We went to Asia last year with LO and before I left one of my friends told me to give him probiotics while there because they would keep him from getting sick. So I got some kiddie probiotics from GNC and he ate one every day and did not get sick a single time in almost a month of travel! I didn't take any and got a little bit of a tummy thing, and we were eating the same things. Maybe you could add some probiotics for extra peace of mind?

@Ra: I'm sure the milk is fine, but if you want, you can get shelf-stable milk and take it with you in your suitcase (Organic Valley sells it in juice box-sized cartons).

If you want to be super careful, bottled water only (including for brushing teeth, and no ice), only fruit you peel (nothing that has been sliced, like melons, since the knife drags the bacteria from the skin through the fruit), no raw vegetables (like salad or anything else), no raw anything else like sushi, and if possible nothing that's been sitting out for a while, like on a buffet.

I don't know if those rules are too extreme for DR, but it's what we did in India.

Have a wonderful trip, I'm sure it will go very well - don't worry too much!

@Ra: I just spoke with my pediatrician this week about this because we are going to an AI next week in Mexico! He said the main rules are bottled water and don't let LO eat unpeeled fruits or uncooked veggies, and he should be just fine.

I have read a lot of reviews the past week and everyone keeps posting the milk is fine as long as it comes in the little cartons. Have fun!

If you are really worried about the milk, could you take toddler formula? S was already drinking WCM when we went to Spain, but we gave her formula to be on the safe side.

@Ra: I think the milk would probably be fine as along as it's cold. Be careful of other foods that need to be kept cool too...I got sick from sushi in the DR...like violently ill. And close your mouth when you shower!

@Ra: you're being neurotic, everything will be fine :)

Seriously though, resorts rely on tourists and your business. You can usually tell via reviews if there are any issues with food safety. I wouldn't worry about it!

I think the milk should be fine as long as it's pasteurized! We were told to avoid fruits/veggies at restaurants if they may have been washed in unclean water (so salad, for instance.) Anything we washed ourselves with filtered water, or that was peeled (like bananas) was fine!

Hmmmm, I eat pretty much anything anyone puts in front of me, in any country i go to. Although I do drink bottled water.

If I remember right from caribbean places I've been to, the milk comes in little cartons like school, so I'm sure it would be fine.

Be careful with fruits and vegetables. I'd say the insides of fruits (like melons) are ok, but DH got sick from eating salad (think about how they wash things)

We are traveling to the DR with LO next weekend. We will be staying at an all inclusive resort. I'm SUPER nervous because last time I traveled to the DR all six of us had diarrhea at least one of the days. I know to only let him drink bottled water, but is there anything else I can do to keep him from getting sick? Is the milk ok? How about the fruit?

Please tell me I'm being neurotic and that everything will be fine.
