Last night and this morning went terrible. He wanted nothing to do with the boob. As soon as we started he screamed. I feel like I am forcing him to nurse and that he is going to bed hungry.

I am just going to stop trying to nurse and give him a bottle instead. I'll start weaning from the pump gradually to make it to a year. :crying:

@Ajsmommy @MrsSRS @Adira @kes18 @red_seattle :

It could be teething, it looks like there are two teeth that are coming in. It doesn't look like fatigue since he is usually chill and happy before we start nursing.

Last night he nursed on and off for 5 minutes. He got distracted, even with the lights off and the white noise machine, but did not cry or scream. I let it be and put him in his crib happy. This morning he woke up happy, but as soon as we were going to start nursing he started crying. I tried to get him to take the breast, but he just did not want to and I didn't want to force him to. As soon as we stopped he was happy again.

I guess I will keep offering and follow his cues.

Should I start cutting back on one of the pumping sessions? I am not worried about supply right now since I am making more than what he eats. This is my nursing/pumping schedule right now:

5:30 AM: pump
7:00 AM: baby wakes up and nurse
10:00 AM: pump at work
3:00 PM: pump at work
6:45 PM: nurse, but I started pumping since he isn't nursing much

What would you do?

Have you tried starting bedtime 15 minutes earlier? It sounds like fatigue.

How long has the screaming been going on? Does it happen regardless of which side you nurse on? Mine got a double-ear infection around this time and it definitely affected our nursing relationship.

Probably not fully weaning, no. They don't really do that until more like 18 mo (unless there are other things at play- like moms pregnancy means reduced milk and they might self wean because of that). But could just be nursing strikes, they are VERY common between 9-12 mo. Some people interpret it as weaning but it's usually not, if you keep offering they will probably come back. But baby might just not want to eat as much as before, that also is part of it. My first had a lot of nursing strikes between 9-12mo. I would always offer and if she didn't want to nurse I just pumped to keep my supply up (since she still took daytime bottles). Didn't push it at night but still offered. Finally at 12mo I quit worrying (meaning I didn't have to bother offering it to her during the day if I didn't want to but I did nurse if she asked) and we just nursed 2x a day- morning and before bed. And then I nursed her until I weaned her at 25mo. Just keep offering and pump if you need to. Not offering is a weaning technique so keep that in mind if you want to keep going.

Could it be teething or over exhaustion? My kids both occasionally did that but it passed w/in a week every time.

This sounds similar to my DD. She did this and weaned at 11 mos. I was devastated bc I read everywhere that babies don't wean before a year (or something like that) and I felt lots of guilt about it. But she did it and she was happy and healthy. I had wanted to make it to 1 yr but she had other plans.

So I would say to keep offering the breast and go with his cues. Maybe he'll become interested again. but if not don't beat yourself up!!!

My baby is 11 months old and I am still nursing in the morning after he wakes up and before he goes to bed. He takes two 6oz bottles of breastmilk during the day and eats solids. I pump right after I wake up and two times at work.

His morning nursing sessions are really short, 2-3 minutes at one breast, but his night sessions were around 8-10 minutes at each breast.

Lately, at night he will just nurse on one side for like 2 minutes and then he starts screaming. I put him in his crib and he stops screaming and goes to sleep right away without any problems. I just pump afterwards to empty my other breast.

I wanted to make it to a year, but if he continues screaming at the breast does this mean he is ready to wean? :crying:
