My baby is even a tight-baby (can barely grab his feet) but he can do the Ergo splits comfortably. I tried him at 4 months with the infant insert and it wasn't great. Much better doing the splits. I agree with PasteMoo that it just takes some time for you both to get used to it.

I also suggest a rolled up blanket in the bottom of the Ergo. We did that for a while after DD was getting big for the infant insert, but wasn't quite ready to sit down in the bottom of the Ergo with her legs hanging out.

I would say no. It takes some time to adjust but works well once adjusted. Babies are very flexible!

@autumnlove: same! DS hated everything that resembled a swaddle, haha
but he LOVED the Bjorn and facing out as soon as he had head control, now we don't use that too much and love the Ergo

my kids are 24" too at almost 3 months and I still use their infant inserts. hubs sometimes doesn't with our son who is bigger (13 lbs), and just leaves his legs a little more scrunched up like with the insert instead of fully extended out the sides.

It was fine for us at 5months but if it doesnt look comfortable to you then I would do what others have suggested with the towel

I've had the same problem with my 4.5 month old. I found if I took the cushion out of the insert and used it under her bottom she fit much better. Though she still doesn't love it because her head doesn't quite reach the top so she can't see all around.

My very long baby fit it at 5 months, but that doesn't sound like a comfortable fit. The towel under the butt trick would probably be better for yours.

I second the recommendation made by @Thehistoryofus - use a rolled up blanket and it will lift your LO's bum up a little and it should do the trick.

My LO fits in the Ergo well, and she's 5 months old. She is on the tall end of the charts, but I think she has fit for quite a while. I would try the blanket rolled under the bum and making sure she's properly adjusted in the seat.

I would say yes. That's how it was for LO at the beginning too and he always seemed really uncomfortable. I think it started fitting better closer to 7 months.

Another option would be to just use the base or a rolled up blanket under her bum to help elevate her a bit.

Also, are you making sure to adjust her once she is buckled in? Its hard to explain, watch the youtube videos to make sure she is sitting right.

hmmm it sounds like she might be too small for it. The infant insert is for use up to 4-6 months. If that little of her legs are sticking out, I would think the insert is still necessary. But you could contact their CS department

We just got the Ergo (I have been wanting it forever) and so today I took a special trip to Target just to walk around and test out the new baby carrier.
My LO is five months so I didn't think I would need the infant insert, but it seems like because the base is so wide, her legs are spread way too far, almost as if she is doing the splits! She is only 24 inches long, so only her feet and and two inches or so of ankle hang out the side. It looks extremely uncomfortable. Is she too small?
