If he's consistently gaining weight, I think you could drop a feeding. My LO is 5 months and in the 30th% for weight and dropped night feedings at 8-10 weeks. But she eats a ton during the day, so I know she's getting enough. If you think he's really hungry at night, I would feed him. If you think he's just getting stuck (my LO did this for 3 weeks even though she could roll quite handily), maybe just roll him back over and see if he can settle himself. It might take a few nights to get used to being rolled/not being fed.

C JUST started dropping her final night feed and she's 6 months old. She's a big girl, but actually not much of an eater. She only takes in about 28-ish oz in a day.

@MamaBehr: Oh god no. He only takes 24 ounces. He's a peanut. I don't mind feeding him as he is not a big eater so I'm happy to feed him whenever he seems remotely interested. Just curious is all!

My doc said that at six months you can start to get rid of the night time feeding, but you could try and just flip him back over when he wakes up and not offer him the bottle. How many ounces does he get during the day? If it is 40 than he's probably good. That being said, my chunky man gets 40 ounces a day and still wakes up for a night time feeding at almost 8 months old (I really need to stop the middle of the night feeding, I'm just to tired to fight the battle hahahaha).

@krsmall: He wakes up on his own (I NEVER wake him up for any reason!) but mostly it seems like he wakes up on his belly and can't figure out how to put himself back to sleep (and then can't roll back to his back, even though he knows how to do it). I always feed him when he has a true night waking though because I figure he needs all the milk he can get at his size!

Is he waking up for his night feed? If so, I would think he still needs it. DS sometimes sleeps through the night and sometimes wakes up for a night feed, it's really up in the air right now. I think maybe around this time they are growing and they need the additional night feed. This morning he woke up at 5 a.m. because he'd rolled from his back to his tummy and scared himself. When I walked over to put him back on his back, he looked at me and was like "hmm, milk.." so I went ahead and feed him eventhough I don't really think he needed it.. But DS will eat anytime given the opportunity (he got that from his daddy)

Honestly, he may just not sleep for more than 11 hours. My daughter has always been one that can't sleep more than 12 hours straight (even if we feed her multiple times).

I would say that you should keep up with the night feed because otherwise he may wake up earlier.

Lately my son has been going to bed at 7 and waking for the day at 6:30 with one overnight feed. I'd like him to sleep later but after his 6:30 feed he's not falling asleep (or he takes 1/2 feed and passes out but then wakes up 5 minutes later). But at the overnight feed (which is usually 7 or so hours after he goes down), he only takes like 2 ounces (he's bottle fed). Obviously, he can go a very long time on little milk.

Do you think he's ready to give up the overnight feed? He's almost 5 months.
