Guess I'm in the minority there. But for me it's tough to beat Rome. The food! The history! The culture! Just such an amazing city. I love the diversity, liberal mindset, the weather, the location (proximity to ocean, mountains and wine), but the thing I think I love most is the people. I've lived in Boston for the better part of a decade for DH's work and think it's kind of lame, but have to admit it's much easier raising a family here than in NY. Second favorites for me are San Francisco and Seattle. I also have a special place in my heart for Washington DC. New York is the kind of place that is exciting for me to visit for a few days, but after about 3 days I just feel like I need to escape and find some open space. I guess I like smaller, more intimate cities. You get it all there...awesome city life, awesome food, great hiking trails ( in and outside the city), skiing is about 2-3 hours away, there are beaches all over (might be too cold to swim in but it's there), shopping great, etc. I can go on and on about it. Hahaha! I would love to move back one of these days, but not anytime soon though. I also like NYC but its a place I love to visit but don't have the desire to live there. I mean that's why anyone that has a dream goes to NYC. Not any of the other cities. It's pretty dirty compared to other cities I've been to (like DC, where I grew up), and it gets so. freaking. crowded! Drives me crazy -- sometimes I feel like living here is making me hate people, haha. I'm also pretty sick of public transportation, but driving is a huge pain. So....yeah I love New York, but sometimes I also kinda hate it.
