@caffeinated: I was going to say the same but since jeans are cut at your hips and not your actual waist, these sizes are totally off as well. If my waist measure 26" and my hips are 36", you measure the actual waistband of a size 26 pair of jeans and it is 15" across (30" around)... soo.. I usually grab 26, 27 and 28 and depending on whether they are low or midrise, I can wear any of these sizes...

I though jean sizes were according to your waist size? I really hate buying jeans that go by pant sizes, because they are never accurate. I think jean sizes e.g., 26, 27, etc. is more accurate.

My friend and I were at the mall yesterday, and there was a machine that measured the size of clothes you wear at the stores in the mall. It was very cool, but a hard dose of reality! My jean size was all over the map, ranging in 3 different sizes (insane). My pant size was the same size though, and an undesirable size at that. My husband and I are thinking that pant size is a more accurate take on what your true size is, and jean sizing is so far off in order to make you feel good about yourself.

What is your take on this?
