Yes, it's fine, but people may give you a hard time and they may bring a gift anyway.

I think it's not a problem. It's cheesy, but something along the lines of "your presence is present enough" is fine!

I've seen it before, and as long as it's worded gently, I don't see why anyone would have a problem with it!

I did this for Dds 1st birthday because I didn't want people to think they needed to buy a gift, as she gets more than enough from grandparents. I got no backlash but plenty of people brought gifts anyway. No biggie.

I'm glad others have done this and didn't get backlash from family! DS gets way too much plastic crap we don't have room for, and I don't know how to put a stop to it. Some relatives will even bring him a present if it's someone else's birthday. I hope if I start telling people not to give him so many gifts, they won't think I'm rude.

I included a little card that said "Please no presents, just your presence" and it seemed to go over pretty well.
That being said...most people still brought at least a book.

I don't know. I think I would feel weird about it like maybe it sounds like I want money (but I'm always paranoid about doing the right thing in situations like that.) I'm in the same spot because after Christmas, she doesn't need anything at all. I'm thinking of doing a small family only party and just telling my mom and fsil she'd like summer dresses or sandals and then organizing a play date with her little buddies but no invitations and just tell the other moms, no gifts it's not a party but bring some cupcakes. We might take her on a trip for her third birthday.

I would love to request no gifts, too, but I have been worried about how that would come across. I have never seen this request IRL and we go to a lot of parties.

Of course, I don't see anything wrong with its, some people wont' listen, but some will and that helps cut down on the gifts. And if people insist they are more likely to ask "if there is anything he needs" and in that case you could say books, clothes, gift card to xyz.

I hope so because we did, and most of the parties we've been invited to have specified "no gifts please" on the invite

Spinoff of DisneyBee's thread about gifts:

We are still trying to decide what to do for DS's 2nd birthday party. If it's something REALLY small (immediate family) that's one thing, but if we include everyone...it's a good 30+ people. DS really does not need 30+ presents, nor do we have the room for them.

Is it ok to write on the invite "no gifts please" or something like that?
