@autumnlove: I was gonna say, did you have something to share with the class? ;)

@ShootingStar: it is so interesting how different everyone is. I was afraid of gender disappointment, but that actually encouraged us not to find out. I figured, I was less likely to be disappointed if I could put a face to a gender. I'm glad you were able to do what would help you!

We will be Team Green! My DH will most likely be deploying next month and be gone until week 21 or so. I'm not going to find out alone, and by that point we'll already be 1/2 through! It excites me that there will be a big surprise for both of us at the end of all this. I'm also okay with getting mostly gender neutral things bc ideally, we'd like to use most everything for future baby #2

I think it sounds like such a fun thing if you don't care about the gender. I had a pretty big gender preference and finding out helped me to work through my feelings at not getting my initial preference. It also helped us decide on a name, which was really hard for us. And knowing helped me bond with him, and it was so fun planning out his nursery and not having to be gender neutral.

We'll also probably find out for #2 because I'll be super curious about whether we'll need to get girly stuff. But I could totally see if we were to have a 3rd and already have one of each to do it for fun.

If you have the kind of personality that makes waiting worth it, then go for it! If you're an obsessive planner that likes gender-specific stuff, then better to find out.

We attempted Team Green last time. We wavered and found out at 16 weeks.

I'm not a team green person because honestly, I just don't feel like I need to not know the sex of the baby.

DH and I cried when we found out at our US, and we had some pretty magical nights staying up imagining what our DD would be like. And when she was born and we got to meet her, it was so incredibly surprising to see how much we felt like we knew this tiny person we had just met.

So for us, we found out and it was still magical and very surprising. In fact, DD surprises us pretty much every day.

We didn't find out with our twins. DH calling out their (predetermined by gender) names to me as they were born is one of my favorite memories. I get teared up just thinking about it. I'm a huge planner but honestly, not knowing probably helped me. If I'd known we were having two girls I would have gone crazy buying stuff (we wouldn't have needed) ahead of time. There was also a ton of anticipation and excitement all around, family, friends, nurses and even the dr's were excited with us to find out. Also, not knowing didn't effect my bonding with them, there was plenty of that without knowing.

We're not finding out the sex and I wouldn't have it any other way. I can't wait to meet our baby and find out if it's a boy or girl all at the same time.

I've never really understood when people say that they need to find out the sex so that they can plan. We've still got more than 11 weeks to go and we've already got everything we need - a cute gender-neutral nursery and plenty of gender-neutral clothing for the first couple of months.

We loved being team green for the first. Other people weren't thrilled with us, but my husband wanted to go into the waiting room and announce, "It's a GIRL!" to our family. Plus since we knew we wanted to have more children, we were fine with gender neutral stuff that could be used for multiple children. We are now pregnant with our second and we are fully supplied for the next boy or girl.

I am a super control freak, so I was surprised at my desire and ability to go the entire pregnancy without finding out. I guess part of it was because I was abroad, I couldn't do all the shopping I normally would have, so it helped to control it a bit.

I felt perfectly bonded to my son, I knew it was a boy from the beginning anyway!

When we found out we were having twins, we never considered not finding out. We needed to plan as much as we could and to know as much about these babies as we could to help ease some of the stresses of a twin pregnancy. We are, however, dead set on being Team Green if we have another one. I think it will be fun to have the anticipation and wonder. Also, honestly, the twins get a LOT of attention from people, so I hope the fact that there will be a big question about the gender will help people be interested in this next baby, too, if that makes sense.

We found out. I'm a big planner and prefer to have absolutely every bit of information I can.
DH had a hard time connecting to the baby prior to our 20week scan and it really helped him bond.
I knew she was a girl from the very beginning.

We found out, and I'm glad I did. I'm such a planner that I liked being about to be in "control" of something like the nursery/preparing clothes/ect. It helped me be less stressed going into the labor by having stuff ready at home. I loved that we could call her a she too, I hated not knowing what to refer to her as either, people calling her an "it" bothered me! ha

We were team green! I loved it! I still felt connected with the baby and were able to focus on other things that boy or girl. We were given things from friends that were gender specific, but that doesn't matter to us (our boy walks around in a pink walker). No one cares! For clothes, we have other family and friends that would be generous in giving us some clothes, and I generally shop at consignment stores anyways (both ways are how we got clothes this time around). I'd definitely do it again for our next one(s)!

Not knowing gave me a lot of anxiety. If I was very cool/collected about it and had no preference, I would have been fine not knowing! I think it depends on how it makes YOU feel.

I think #1 is the best time to not find out. For #2 you want to know if you have to buy a whole new gender set of anything you have- like if we have a boy for #2 we'd need mostly new clothes, and some people have things like pink walkers, etc that they may want to replace.

(ETA- we found out, actually paid to find out early haha. 16 weeks! And I didn't believe it til 20!)

My take on being Team Green is the same as my take on running a marathon - I wish these were things I wanted to do, because they seem amazing...but my heart is just not 100% in either one, and therefore I think I'd be awful at (and therefore probably give up halfway through) either one because I wasn't totally committed to the idea to begin with - I wouldn't have the discipline! :)

I feel like finding out your baby's sex is a surprise whenever you do it - you just get to choose when you have that surprise! Like others have said, I'm a huge planner, and I like gender-specific clothing and decor, even some gear/toys. While I would have been thrilled with a baby of either sex, I've always been particularly attached to the idea of having at least one little girl, so with my first, I wanted to find out so that if it was a boy, I'd have time to think about what it would be like to parent a little boy. Purely by coincidence, I've only ever babysat girls, and I only have nieces - no nephews; having a boy would have been totally new territory for me. Then after #1 was a girl...I wanted to find out if #2 was a boy/girl purely for shopping and planning purposes.

We always said that if we had a boy and a girl, we'd go team green for #3 because at that point, it wouldn't matter at all from a planning standpoint (we'd already be set for either sex), but since #2 is a girl, I think we'll find out again if we opt for #3.

I was team green the first time, and it was he best! I loved all the guessing, old wives tales, etc, etc. I couldn't have been happier when my husband told me the sex in the operating room. The anticipation kept me going through some really scary times during my induction/csection. We will 100% be team green for all of our future babies! including the bean growing now, because it was so amazing!

Both DH and I were desperate to find out at 20w. I would have been excited either way, but I was convinced it was a boy (he was!) so I wanted to know if I was correct. It made me feel way more bonded to be able to call baby "he" instead of "it".

DO IT!!!

It was no question for us--we both wanted to know. All of our big items are gender neutral anyway, but I know people love to give clothes as gifts and I didn't want a wardrobe full of green and yellow onesies and sleepers.

It really just depends on your personality. "Magical" is not a term I would probably ever use when it comes to childbirth, and we're very practical-- so we wanted a name picked out, clothes bought, etc.

I did enjoy singing to her and making up songs with her name when we were driving together to and from work (when she was in my belly), so I think in some ways it made me feel more bonded.

It was the right choice for us.
