Willa is insanely smart and advanced. I would not be surprised if she tested into a Gifted & Talented school at age 4. That kid is the brightest lightbulb in the bunch. I'm so jealous. You have a feisty little bugger on your hands!! It will be an amazing ride I bet :)

I've been doing baby signs with Cobi for 6 months and he still won't do most of them. He's signed eat a handful of times and more. But he stopped doing them. He recognizes other signs but won't do them. I think it's typical for babies to pick them up after age 1+.

I think she's just smart. I've been signing "milk," "eat," and water since 5 months. My son is almost 9 months and he smiles when I sign what he wants, but hasn't attempted to sign back. He also just started clapping about 2 weeks ago.

@mediagirl: I think he *may* have waved last night and this morning. But more flapping his arm open saying goodbye, and, it might be accidental! I do that with crawling - get so excited and cheer and then he gives up to look at me!

@Rainbow Sprinkles: Very impressive! The only thing that my W picked up is "all done". She knows other ones, but she only does them when she feels like it.

@winniebee: LOL I'm there with you. :) M put her hands together accidentally one day and I think I scared her by saying, "WOW, YOU JUST CLAPPED, HONEY!!!!" Hahahaha. She's never clapping again if her mom is going to shriek like that each time she does...

@Rainbow Sprinkles: I think it's a mix of a & b, and c) she's smart!

We were doing sign language off and on with LO since 5 months (mostly off) and she's almost 9 months. She's been clapping for a while but didn't do any of the other signs. Since she started the nanny share with an older baby last week, she can wave hello and do "all done" because the other baby does those signs.

That's impressive!

Our son has been learning sign language since he was 4 months old. But we haven't seen him sign much, he's 7 months old.

...or is my baby just unique?

My LO learned to clap a couple weeks ago. She learned to do it in less than a day. I would just say "W, can you clap?" And then I would clap. By the end of the day, she was mimicking me. Now all we have to do is say the word clap and she goes crazy.

Well, this got me thinking that it would maybe be easy to teach her to sign.

This morning at breakfast, I asked her to sign please when she was going crazy for her food (and I demonstrated the sign). It only took three or four asks, and she started doing it!!
Now I ask her to say please, and she instantly does the sign. It took all of five minutes!

I am thinking either a) we just tried at the perfect age, or b) she is seriously motivated by food.
