@HappyBaker: we have it with 2 thin ikea mattresses (i believe the recommended ones) and a topper (not that expensive) and while I think it’s totally fine for my 3yo I don’t like sleeping on it when he needs comfort. And that’s doubled up with a topper! We’re planning to get a real mattress eventually as he gets bigger.

@HappyBaker: Not from Ikea, they were Lucid mattresses ordered from wal-mart. Since we knew that it would be utilized for guests, we thought they had more support than the Ikea ones!

@HappyBaker: That would probably work if they're shorter, but it would still be a bit awkward to have to scoot down to get out of bed (or maybe I'm just really short...but I tend to get in/out closer to the head of the bed)

@MaryM: Oh good point, in my head I was picturing that they would put their heads at the back of the daybed, not sideways, but I think you are right its meant to be someone on the inside and someone on the outside, which would probably be tricky!

For older guests...would they really want to use it as a king sized bed? It could be difficult for the person on the "inside" to get in and out of a daybed style king sized bed.

If looking for something for older guests, I might look for the type of daybed where you have a separate pop up trundle that can be pulled away from the main bed so it's easier to get in and out.

@fmmtk: Awesome thank you! Were the mattresses you got from Ikea or from somewhere else?

The Hemnes still feels like a solid bed when pulled out to a king. I've slept on a pop- up trundle once or twice and felt like it was going to fall to the ground every time I turned! We purchased two 5" Memory Foam mattresses and just stack them when it's a daybed.

We will probably purchase a king size topper to use for future guests just because the memory foam mattresses are a bit hard in my opinion, but that's the mattress and not the bed!

I feel like a ton of people on here have this bed, and I know its a great option for a kids bed when its just a regular daybed. I'm wondering though if its comfortable when you pull it out to be a king? Did you buy the mattresses from IKEA or something different to make it more comfortable when its a king? Also does it seem sturdy enough weight-limit wise?

This would be for guests but they are in their 60's. They usually stay 3-4 nights at a time. Trying to decide between the Hemnes and just a regular daybed with pop up trundle.
