@rahlyrah: I think so. We moved when LO was 5 months old and I kept thinking how much easier it would have been to do before she was born. We had to leave out so much of her stuff until moving day because you never know what your baby might need/want/etc. I would just hire movers who will do all the heavy lifting and set up your furniture for you in the new place.

@Smurfette: Wah, that stinks! I was stoked when I found out we got to skip a month before first payment was due! Free $$!

@yoursilverlining: we closed feb 1 and first payment was due Mar 1 :( I was hoping to skip a month too!

@rahlyrah: Worth asking. We moved when I was 34 weeks and while that was hard, I can't imagine moving now with a 8 week old. I think it would be easier before baby is here for sure.

Agreed that everything is negotiable and that is a pretty common thing to negotiate.

As the buyer or seller you can ask for your preferred closing date.

Now let's say the close date does not change, but the seller let's you move in before you close them you will just end up paying rent to the seller for a bit.

Totally possible! We asked for a closing date almost two months after we put our offer in. Our reasons were primarily because of when the lease on our previous place was up, but it was also really nice to be able to take our time packing, picking out paint colors, etc., before moving in.

Awesome! Thanks ladies!

I guess it is the closing date we would like to push back. The seller is a little old lady so I am not sure why she is planning on selling the place (I'm guessing it may just be too much house for her). Hopefully, she isn't in a rush to get out!

This whole process is much more stressful than I thought it'd be!

It might be possible, or at least sort of possible. When we purchased our last home we closed in late November and no payment was due until January 1st. So, if the same was true for you and you didn't close until June you might not have a payment until August.

The current owners also might be willing to close in 60-90 days instead of 30, or they might be willing to rent the home after you purchase it for a month or so.

I know you didn't ask, but I personally would try to move in before the baby is born. I think that will be way easier than moving with an infant.

Yes. Our last offer to our sellers was low price with 90 days to close or high price with 60 days to close. Guess which one they took!

It is negotiable, but delaying the closing date can be a negative for a seller (they want to stop having to pay upkeep on the home as soon as they can!)

That said, 3 months isn't that crazy.

Everything is negotiable! :)
Are you talking about a closing date aka when you take ownership or when you physically move in. Because after you take owner ship you can let the house sit empty for however long you want!

If you don't want to make payments until August then you're talking about a August closing date. Which isn't crazy considering that's in 3 months. Depending on the situation of the current homeowners they might like it. More time to pack up, find a house etc.

I'll def bring it up!

Everything is negotiable!

When do they want to close? If they have another house lined up that hey have to move into by June or something, they might not be willing to close so late, but it's worth putting it in the offer and seeing what they say.

I think we are ready to purchase our first house!

We didn't initially plan to start house-hunting until later this month, but last month we stumbled across a home that we had to see. We are going to do our second walk through on Weds. If we still love it as much, I think we are going to make an offer and set up an inspection.

Our only issue is that we would really prefer not to move in until August sometime. Our baby is due at the end of June and we feel like it would be a lot to move right before or after he born. We would be willing to sign a contract and pay the down payment, but if we wait until August to move in we would like to wait until that point to make payments.

Is that even possible or are we being ridiculous? We've never done this before so we have no idea what to expect.
