I wouldn't THINK we're in a high crime area. Except for that double murder last spring. And the car thefts. And the break-ins. All on our cul-de-sac.

Our neighborhood is pretty safe and quiet. Granted, we only rent here, and will likely move to a different neighborhood when we buy.

Compared to where I grew up the neighborhood i live in is very safe and quiet. Honestly since moving to NC I would have to say I have seen nothing happen except on the news. I guess that is one good thing I can love about this place.

I think I live in a safe 'area.' I do live in an apartment complex where other people complain about the safety. My building is not clumped together like the rest. So it's fairly quiet. I heard my buildings is one of the buildings that people request to live in. Guess we were lucky when we moved in to get our apartment.

Where we moved to this summer is super safe. It's at the end of a really nice street surrounded by expensive houses. If we weren't renting from people that haven't raised the rent in like 20years we wouldn't ever be able to live where we do.
It's a huge improvement from where we were before and I am grateful for it!

We live in a pretty safe town in general. Not that big and for the most part is a lot of Military and retired Military. DH and I dont live on base and actually live just outside of town and more country setting, so I feel pretty safe. I love living out of town, never been a "city" girl. But sometimes can be a little scary when you are alone and dont even have a home in sight or close neighbors. LOL

Yes I would say our neighborhood is pretty safe. It's pretty much all families and we're definitely in the suburbs. We walk the dog late at night all throughout the neighborhood and I never feel uncomfortable.

We live in a suburb about 30 minutes northeast of Detroit. We live in a relatively safe neighborhood, but in the last year have heard major stories about a robbery, murder, and sexual predators within a five mile radius of our place. It's a relatively safe suburban neighborhood, but crime is sadly a part of life anywhere.

We joke that we live ghetto-adjacent. We live in a relatively nice area of town, but literally across the train tracks (oh, how cliche) is a whole bunch of state housing... from what I gather, this is what urban Americans tend to call "the projects". A whole bunch of subsidised, low income households. In the year and a bit we've lived here, there have been two major crime incidents in our area, neither of which (extremely luckily) have involved us.

It's cheap here, and fine for now, but I've told FI that we are definitely moving before we have a LO to worry about!

I love Park Slope - the park is so nice there. We are on the UES and live in an area that is considered very safe. However I am uber cognizant of what is going on around me. Just becuase my neighborhood is safe doesn't mean that someone not from my neighborhood won't come around looking to do harm. Because I live in a well to do building though there are going to be people looking to take what you have. We have doormen and a couple of actual armed security people in the building so that helps.
I am fortunate I know to not have to really worry about money or rent though I have in my early twenties. I lived in Harlem when I first moved here and got mugged no less than 5 times. I will say that the peace of mind I have in the UES is worth the money we pay for it.

Right now we live in an aweful "neighborhood" with known drug dealers all over, including our next door neighbor... My husband started renting here before we were married and was supposed to get a new place before we moved in but it didn't work out so we are stuck in a winter lease :( We will be moving to a better place once the lease is over in March though.

We don't live in the safest neighborhood. We're in Brooklyn, too, and while our area is being gentrified and has lots of lovely restaurants, bars, and cafes now--that doesn't mean the riffraff has left. I've seen one too many incidents on the local news--and one (an old man was shot and killed outside of a barbershop by some stupid kids) happened 3 blocks from our apartment.

We are leaving at the end of our lease in September. I wish we were leaving sooner! The baby will be born and moving will be a pain, but I can't see myself raising my daughter here. My husband doesn't feel the same way, but I told him I'm moving with our daughter, so of course that means he has to move, too. :)

I'm home alone a lot so living in a "safe" neighborhood is a high priority for me. We currently live in a very safe, small, Mennonite town. I've never once felt unsafe living here.

Growing up I lived on a busy street that probably wasn't the safest but also wasn't the most dangerous by any means. We did get robbed my our neighbors who were renting the house next door but they did it while nobody was home. I never felt particularly unsafe in my parents house thanks to neighbors who are like family and a busy, well lit street where cops frequently drive. A gun at arms reach also helps the comfort level.

We live in a reasonably safe neighborhood in a medium-sized city. It's mostly young families or older folks who have lived here for decades. There have been some burglaries recently, but we feel pretty sheltered from that with our two giant dogs!

We bought our house about two years ago, and safety was one of our most important considerations when we were looking at neighborhoods. The other great thing about where we live is that I can walk to work.

Pre-pregnancy I was absolutely fine living in "unsafe" neighborhoods to save a buck. When I was in college I lived in the crappiest apartment and would get followed home by homeless people when I walked my dog on a regular basis. When that would happen instead of going to my house (I didn't want them to know where I lived) I would go to the beer distributor down the street and chat with the sales people until the homeless guy walked away. This happened so often I was on a first name basis with most of their sales associates and they would keep dog treats at the register for my dog, hahaha.

Now I live on a Navy base. It really doesn't get much safer than that, I don't know anyone that locks their door and there are ALWAYS kids (like, really young kids even) running around since there are playgrounds like every 5 houses!

We live in a pretty safe area. We actually live right across the street from an elementary school so there are cops constantly patrolling. When we first moved here, we noticed a lot of activity at night that made me scratch my head. Nothing bad, but just stuff you only see in safe neighborhoods. There is a guy who goes jogging every night around midnight. There is a woman who walks her dogs down the main stretch of road around 11pm alone. In fact, you see a lot of women walking around alone at night here. I still carry my mace though when I go out jogging. You never know. There are always stories in the news where someone says, "Wow, but he seemed so normal! I wouldn't have thought he was running an underage strip club in his basement!"

I grew up in North St Louis county, less than 10 minutes from downtown. Basically the whole area was sketch as all get out. I mean, when I was about 10-11, the house 2 doors down got raided and we found out that they'd been running a brothel and a drug den for at least a year. People have gotten shot, police chases, drug dealers, burglaries, car windows smashed... It doesn't really bother me all that much because I'm used to it.

Now that I'm pregnant, though, I wouldn't want to raise my child there. Our neighborhood here in the UK is really nice and quiet. The worst thing that's happened is our neighbors pumpkin got smashed on Halloween.

I prefer to live in safe place, even if it means higher payment. We live out in the country-ish area. There are only like 10 houses on our street. We all have at least an acre if not more too, so we are pretty spread out. I feel very safe though. The people around us are mostly young couples starting families, so that is really nice.

Ours is really safe and home-y. It's mostly old folks and other couples with children. It's very established for the area. We used to live in a "meh" area. It was okay for safety and okay for rent. Now we own our house and live in a safe neighborhood - I much prefer that. We wouldn't have bought in an unsafe neighborhood though.

we live on a small barrier island, which is pretty much the definition of safe - as an example, there is a shooting here about once every 4-5 years. that's it. and everyone remembers each and every one.

my DH grew up on the island, but i moved here from farther inland in a much worse town. my neighborhood were i lived wasn't bad, but where my high school was was a bit scary. i am so happy that we live somewhere safe, and where our kids will grow up able to walk or bike to school (when they're old enough) - that wasn't an option where i grew up.

Since moving here, I've never been in an area of Tokyo where I've felt unsafe. The area we live in is super safe and I have no hesitation walking around even at night. It always seems like there are so many people out at all times of the day, no matter where in the city you are. Our building has 2 video intercom entrances you have to go through plus you have to pass by a 24 hour reception desk. All deliveries including food has to sign in at a security office, so our building is very safe.

It's more safe now than it was a year and a half ago. We live in an area (on a small lake in a very rural county) that is about half retirees, 1/4 people our age (30's/40's), and about 1/4 low-rent homes. With the low-rent homes, you never know what your going to get. The home across from us is a rental and the previous renter was dealing drugs (out in the open on the front porch), traffic coming and going all hours of the day, the couple fought all the time, and they had a break in. A few neighbors called the landlord and complained enough that he kicked them out but I was pretty nervous while they were there.

The guy that lives there now is good- quiet, no fighting with anyone, and has a steady job. Hopefully the landlord has gotten better about screening prospective tenants and we won't have any more issues.
