I don't have a nikon, I have the canon instead. But I bought a 18-200 lens right after I got my T3 with kit lens. Then shortly after I got the 50mm 1.8, then the 30mm 1.4. I never use the kit lens now. And the only reason I used it after I bought the 18-200 was that I left it on there at home to use because it was so much lighter. If you plan on buying more, I'd say save your money on the kit and just put it toward a new one. If you don't plan on buying more for a while, then it's a good starter to have.

I have the kit lens on my camera at work, and it works well for us. I may upgrade when we have the money though.

I am no expert, but I would go with a prime lens instead of a kit lens (especially if you have the option to not get the kit lens). This thread was super helpful for me:

I am going to get the d3200 pretty soon hopefully and I was wondering if I should just get the standard kit lens or get a different one. Which one? There are way too many reviews out there and I am getting overwhelmed! Thanks in advance :)
