His company went on a hiring freeze a few months later and it's still on. I was desperate and I hated my job at the time and though maybe I could go back to school and work this other job. It was for a part-time jewelry copywriter. I had 7 years' experience in newspapers, copyediting, magazine editing, and copywriting. They turned me down because I didn't have jewelry copywriting experience. Now all the PR jobs want 3-5 years' experience at a PR firm. And these are jobs that are paying $30,000/year. It's super depressing. However, unemployment is still really high and has not really improved all that much since the recession ended, which sucks. I still keep reading about how companies are STILL laying people off.
