DS wouldn't sleep flat on his back as a newborn. He screamed. He slept in the R and P til 16 weeks. I have been transitioning him for 3 days and it's going well (tried once before about a month ago). I started a post on it!

The rock n' play is probably the thing that I am most excited about getting off of our registry. I've actually registered for two, one for at home and one for the in-laws house.

I had never heard of the R&P before recently... on here. and the testimonials are AMAZING.

DH and I spent the entire first month taking turns HOLDING Ds at night for 3 hours as a time so the other could get some sleep. It was fine for the first week... or two. But when DH was working FT, long 12-14 hr days - we were both suffering! He would wake 15 minutes after we tried laying him in his bed. It was really hard.

IF we had had a way to get some sleep, I would have taken it no problem!!

The key with transitioning is that you kinda have to know when you, and they, are ready.

We ended up co-sleeping because it's the only way we got DS to sleep. At 3.5 mos I'd had enough, he was waking every hour to eat because it was right there !! But he made the transition nice and easy. No issues. I think it was just the ideal perfect time for HIM.

Our LO sleeps in the rock and play during the day and the bassinet at night. She does fine in either. We are going to try and transition her to the crib soon and don't expect too much of an issue (she is 7 weeks). At least I hope not!

And for the record, we loooooooove the rock and play. It is hands down the thing we use most, other than the changing pad. :) We keep it in our living room and travel with it when we go to parties or other people's houses. It was definitely worth the money even if it's not used for night time sleeping.

We put C in her crib at 2 weeks old. She slept in her bouncer the first 2 weeks. She's always slept fine. She was sleeping 12 hours through the night until she started teething and even now she only wakes up once and sleeps from 6pm to 8am.

We didn't have any issues transitioning our daughter to the crib. We did transition her at about 12 weeks and that might have made a difference. She is also a very laid back baby so that might play a part of it to.

Honestly, I tried EVERYTHING to get her to sleep before the RnP, and it saved my life! For me, even though she is almost 4 months and still sleeping in it, the sleep I got for the last month has been SO worth it. I mean, literally, she would not sleep anywhere but on me until I put her in the RnP. The very first night she was in it (swaddled in a swaddleme) she slept from 9pm to 7am. I was SHOCKED and so rested when I woke up and it was light out. I recommend it to anyone who is having sleep trouble. I hope to transition her out of it soon though and have been working on that nightly.

@stiffaknee: That is so sad! We actually got an angel care motion sensor monitor for that reason. We aren't quiet around him at all... but he also doesn't sleep as much as most babies seem to.

@Pastemoo: I don't think its specifically because we didnt use the rock n' play, but after watching the difficulties my sister in laws had transitioning their boys off the paci, the lovies and "quiet sleep" (literally, the boys would wake up if a toilet flushed) I didn't want LO to get use to sleeping a certain way (or with certain items). We also started our nighttime routine at 2 weeks and were kind of dictators about it!

A friend of mine's niece passed away of SIDS like the week before LO was born, so I was petrified to let her sleep in her crib the first couple of weeks. But once we did, the entire house started sleeping better.

@stiffaknee: WOW! We never used a rock n play but he didn't sleep through the night for a lot longer! We put him in the crib the night we got home from the hospital.

I bought the rock and play sleeper and never took it out of the box. LO never had issues with reflux, so I never felt the need to put her to sleep at an incline...I tried to minimize all sleep props from the get-go and I truly believe thats why she slept through the night so early (she slept 8-10 hours at 4 1/2 weeks).

Our LO didn't really have that much trouble. Swaddling helped with the transition, I think. Just don't wait forever to transfer them. I think the longer you wait, the harder it is! We did it around 11-12 weeks, which was a good age.

So we (will) have a newborn rock and play sleeper. I feel like I'm reading so much about the transition from rock and play to crib, though, that I'm afraid to even use it!

Is the sleep you get with it in the beginning worth the trouble later? Did your baby even have trouble transitioning?
