Our little guy is five months old now and doing very well. We are having so much fun with the holidays coming up! On the legal front, we hit a very stressful bump in the road when our attorney unexpectedly passed away and our replacement attorney ran into a significant health challenge. We are doing our best to stay optimistic. I had hoped we would have the adoption headed towards finalization at this point. But, that was not in the cards. Our little man is keeping us busy! He was a delight on the flight home and has adjusted well to his new environment. My husband and I are working on finding a good balance in our new role as parents because it is the most challenging thing either of us has done. Lol! On the legal front, as I suspected, our situation is far from usual. As a matter of fact, as per an attorney who advised on the updating of our state's adoption laws last year, our situation is so rare, it was a scenario that was never even considered under the updated laws! And just like every other crazy twist in our story, that appears to work in our favor. We still have plenty of things to do to make our situation permanent. But, again, there is no doubt in anyone's mind we were meant to be a family.
