Only 2 hours? We took E to the Houston zoo and spent at least 5 hours there. We didn't go until he was old enough to be interested in looking at the animals, and we also got him out of the stroller some and let him walk from exhibit to exhibit. We definitely could have spent more time there, but he wouldn't stroller nap and was getting deliriously tired. We went to the Portland zoo a year ago (which is huge) and stayed from 11am-4pm (closing)! We didn't even see all of the exhibits. We packed a lunch and had snacks...then had dinner at a restaurant in Portland and drove back to Seattle. Just a local zoo that's average sized is probably a 3 hour outing. Not huge, but not tiny. We typically leave around 7:30-8 to get there around 9:30 when it opens. And we are usually out of there by 2pm. He was 2ish at the time, so we just continued to walk around while he napped in the stroller. The San Diego Zoo is pretty monstrous though! We were there from 9am til 230pm and there was easily more stuff to do that we skipped out on. Ours is decently big. T took an early nap, we stopped for lunch, and then were at the zoo from 2-5. Dinner isn't until 6 or 630 so we didn't need to plan for dinner. We also tour it pretty leisurely - they've got lots of buildings/patios where you can hang out for a while. It takes is about 2 hours to walk through and stop at every single exhibit, if we are slow. I pack water and snacks, but we usually stop and have lunch at their food court area. Some people pack their own lunches, but their prices aren't bad & neither of us wants to lug around a cooler. You'll be spending 3 hours driving, and I'd it takes 2 hours to go through, that's a 5 hour trip! Is it an all-day thing where I'll have to plan for dinner, as well as snacks and lunches? Note: we are 1.5 hours from the zoo.
