It ticked louder through the monitor than it did in the nursery. Purely functional, nothing fancy or pretty. I wouldn't be worried about any ticking, my son finds steady sounds soothing and falls asleep better with noise than with silence. We have a beautiful wall clock that we got as a wedding gift that isn't hanging up anywhere right now. It's not silent, but it's a lot quieter than the other ticking clocks we have.
