I don't really have a set budget for birthday gifts. LO has a good buddy who had a party at his house and I think I spent about $50. Location or perceived cost of the party wouldn't make a difference to me. I try to get an outfit on sale from ON or Gap and then a small toy that I think they will like. Ie a large hello kitty puzzle for my friends 4 year old who is HK obsessed and a cute dress from ON. </p> <p>The only family we buy for is my cousins kids as we don't have nieces or nephews. So I usually just get them a toy or outfit. For her sons first birthday I got a ride on toy. For example, how much do you usually spend for a 1-year old's gift? Does it differ with different ages and, if so, how much more/less do you spend depending on age?</p> <p>I tend to spend more for first birthdays since in the Korean culture they are considered a big milestone. I also spend a little more (maybe about $10 more) for the child if we are closer to the family versus if we just met or are acquaintances. I would say I budget about $50 for first birthdays (or $75 if our families are close, $100-$150 if we are family). For other birthdays, I would say I budget about $20-25. </p> <p>Lastly (sorry for the multi-question post!), does your gift budget change depending on the location of the birthday party (i.e. do you spend more if the party is located at a special venue like a bounce party place versus a birthday party held at home)?
