I am sure they told Kaitlyn she couldn't tell Nick until the rose ceremony - and that she had to let him talk first. And they told Nick to go ahead and give his speech and propose. I think she was really shocked he pulled out the ring and thought she would have a chance to talk before he did that. In comparison, when she saw Shawn, he gave a little speech and then she gave a little speech - he didn't propose until she told him he was "the one." So the producers really set that up. It's so interesting to me that all of the former cast members from the show seem to be truly friends with the producers (namely Chris Harrison and Elan Gale) when they toy with them so much.</p> <p>@twodoghouse: The reason I think Kaitlyn was frigid to Nick is that, unlike other seasons, Kaitlyn and Nick had a prior relationship, each other's phone numbers, etc. and knowing both of their personalities I'm sure they talked after the show wrapped, and Nick had some harsh things to say and Kaitlyn doesn't pull punches either. I read the spoilers and knew she picked Shawn, but I still just don't get it from what we saw on TV. I think they wanted to play up the drama between Nick and Shawn (because otherwise the season was fairly drama-free!) so all we saw of K and S were convos about Nick. So their relationship just didn't seem as fun, exciting, loving, whatever, as her relationship with Nick. But Shawn mentioned in ATFR that there were so many great moments that never aired because they were focusing so much on the Nick and Shawn drama. I thought Kaitlyn seemed really frigid with Nick on the after show so I don't know what that's about. I thought he handled himself pretty classy (compared to Andi's season, certainly!) at the after show. He sure seemed pissed when she dumped him though. I do wish she'd told him before he laid it all out and was about to propose. That seemed unnecessarily harsh, especially considering what he went through with Andi already.
