Now that she is older I can't do that anymore so we almost always do it after her bath (nails are softer and I find easier to cut) and I let her pick which is first her fingers or toes. I let her hold her lovey or suck her thumb since that comforts her and do it as quickly as possible. After I am done there are lots of kisses and snuggles as a congratulations for being a big girl. LO is too light of a sleeper to do it in her sleep, and she's not interested in TV or videos yet. I try to make a game out of it and say things like "Boom!" each time I snip a nail, then I cheer each time I'm done with a nail. Kinda gross cause there's nail clippings everywhere but we just vacuum them up. He doesn't mind me clipping his finger nails but he HATES when I clip his toenails. I have never cut too short or hurt him, he just doesn't like me restraining his hand to clip them. He fights and screams and hates me for a while after.
