I'll be finding out on Friday what to do if my water breaking is the first sign of labor--how soon i need to get to the hospital. Otherwise, we are to follow the 5-1-1- rule and we will be working with our doula in the beginning of labor...she's going to help us determine if it's real or not!

Once we're checked into the hospital, the plan is to let DH's mom know because she wants to go to the hospital (unless it's like, 3am and the nurses are like, oh honey, you got 5 hours, don't worry...then we won't wake her up until i'm further along).

@NaturallyCathy: Ah, I wasn't GBS positive so that wasn't an issue. I'm sure they would have been fine with me going earlier, but were just giving me guidelines.

@2PeasinaPod: Thanks for your input!! I haven't had any cervical checks yet (maybe my OB office doesn't do them?) so I have no idea if I'm dilated at all. I haven't had any symptoms really though except lately I've been feeling crampy. I'll definitely talk to Hubs tonight!

@hergreenapples: Turns out I'm GBS positive so I get to go in whenever they start to get close together, none of the normal "life as usual" for me :/

@ladyfingers: Yeah, that seems to be the standard practice but my doc also told me that if I went into labor and felt like I should go, go. Don't wait for the contractions, listen to my body. Besides, if I get there a little early, all the better for the antibiotics so we aren't trying to rush anything!

Our plan is to labour at home for as long as possible and to carry on with "life as usual" for as long as I can until I need to really stop and focus on contractions.

If DH is at work, I will call him to check in and keep him informed as things progress. I will let him know as soon as I feel like I need him home for support. He works 10 minutes from home.

@2PeasinaPod: Thanks hun, I hope so too. I want to meet this next LO and I want to get back to my big LO, if you know what I mean :)

@Smurfette: @Adira: I guess that's the difference - you two are working still, I've been a SAHM for over a year now. I wouldn't know how I would handle it if I had gone into labor the first time while working too!

And for me, DH is about twenty minutes away at work, give or take traffic time, and the hospital is about thirty minutes away. There is one five minutes down the road but A) they haven't had all my medical records since I was eight, and B) that wasn't where I delivered last time so I have no idea what their setup is. It's just easier to go the distance to the place I know the best and am most comfortable with.

I just worry about the traffic time/getting someone to watch Henry/getting to the hospital in time/etc. Everyone says the second one goes faster - I just hope it's not too fast!

We haven't really talked about this. I am planning on working up until I have her, so if I think I am in labor during the day I would just call him and put him on notice. He only works about 20, 30 mins in traffic, away from the house. Then we aren't even 10 miles from the hospital

@Adira: Yeah, I would have him stop car pooling as well, just to be safe.

We have more of a plan for ds for labor...my mom will pick him up from school if I head to the birth center. If it's at night, she'll come get him or stay with him here, and if he's at his dad's for the weekend, we'll tell him to drop off ds at my mom's house Sunday night...he's already in on this plan, too. For DH, I'll call him when things feel like they're starting up if he's at work. He's about 30-40 minutes away, so I'll have my mom take me to the birth center, if things get going fast and he'll meet me there. I'm gonna try to give him time to come home, though. We're just hoping she comes on a Saturday, lol.

If he was at work I was supposed to call him on his cell (or at work if he wasn't answering his cell) when my water broke or when my contractions were 10 minutes apart. As it was, I was having time-able contractions that were like 15 minutes apart when I sent him to work. He was too eager, though, and came home early from work (I was about 12 minutes apart when he came home).

@2PeasinaPod: Unfortunately the contractions stopped Sunday and I haven't had any real noticeable ones since then but they were anywhere between six and eight minutes apart. But after talking to my doc Monday, I just want to have a loose plan in place so I was curious to see what other momma's did in this situation.

@NaturallyCathy: Yeah, those sound like honest to goodness contractions! It's crazy how every woman's body is different! I also dilated pretty quickly to 9 CM, but stalled there...so they had to start a pitocin drip which is what took longer.

How long in between your contractions? Do you have a smartphone? I downloaded a contraction app to make it easier for me to keep track. Just a push of a button when they start and a push when they end. Gave me average length between contractions and helped me figure out when we should call my doctor and head to the hospital!

@Adira: I would definitely say he should stop carpooling as of 39 weeks at least! Are you getting checks? Are you dilated yet? If you are at all, I'd say he needs to stop carpooling and take his own car until the baby arrives!!

@NaturallyCathy: Depending on if she's in a meeting at work or not, my mom could probably come get me - she works 20 minutes from my home. Though... I'm planning on working up until I go into labor so... if I stay home because I think something might be up, I could always tell Hubs not to carpool (or to work from home). I probably should be more worried about what I'll do if I go into labor at work and have to drive myself home or something!

@2PeasinaPod: When I described the contractions I'd been having to my doctor on Monday, he said those weren't BH contractions, those sounded like honest to god contractions. And to me, they feel exactly when they had to induce labor with the pitocin the last time around.

Tightening in my chest, like it suddenly becomes difficult to breathe easily. Starts in the lady parts as a hardening, tightening, painful - moves up along my belly to my ribcage, lingers for thirty seconds or so, then slowly ebbs. After a little while, I can breathe again. I timed them, they usually last about a minute.

And according to my doctor, I'm currently "on the launching pad"; we are currently "locked and loaded". This, of course, was after the cervix exam. He seemed to think it would be surprising if I made it to the weekend without a bundle but he wouldn't guess when it would come (too many disappointed mothers in the past).

OMG - I just realized.... my husband usually carpools to work with a couple of his coworkers (his work is about 50 minutes away). Should I maybe insist that he STOP carpooling just in case I go into labor??? I never even THOUGHT about this?? I'm currently 38 weeks, but no symptoms as of yet.

We didn't have a LO to care for yet, but I was to call him as soon as my contractions started. And I would have! I went into labor at 10:30 at night though.

How are your BH contractions feeling? Are they painful? I had a bunch of them the weeks leading up to labor...one day they were pretty consistent, but nothing that I thought was actual labor. When I had my first, full-blown contraction, man I knew it was labor!

Well...

If we were asleep when they started I planned to let DH sleep... which I did. I went all night and all the next day with me not waking DH & only casually mentioning I was having them.

If it were during the day I would let DH know but wouldn't tell him to come home until it was getting hard for me to function through them (given it would take DH less than an hour to get home).

@autumnlove: That's my thing - someone has to take care of Henry. We have a plan for if it's at night, which is when most of my BH contractions have been but we don't have it ironed out for the daytime...

I don't have one yet...but I need to think about it soon. I will be delivering by C-section but my Dr. told me some moms go into labor before that so plan ahead since I will need to go to the hospital as soon as any contractions start. I will need someone to take care of LO and our dog.

Uh oh... I don't have one. I'm interested in hearing what other people's plans were now!
