@JerricaBenton: hahah - yeah co-workers and TMI stuff is much more awkward then friends and family! Though DH's co-workers are throwing us a little shower too, but they are like 95% women who've been there done that!

@ladyfingers: FYI, I picked up some Dr. Brown's bottles at TJ Maxx last week (posted in the Deal's section). 4 bottles and accessories for only $14.99!

My insurance company won't cover a pump until June which is no good since LO will be in daycare starting at the end of April. So I put it on the registry -- along with all my BF'ing supplies -- fully expecting nobody to buy it or anything else boob-related. I was right.

I'm planning to wait until we see how BF'ing in general goes and then buy the pump. I don't want to introduce bottles until 4-6 weeks in and I don't want to buy a $250 pump and have to go through the issue of returning it, if BF'ing doesn't work.

As for bottles, I just bought bottles that I thought would be good based on recommendations -- Dr. Brown's -- and plan to pump into bags for storage and pour into bottles for feeding/daycare. If I'm building a daycare stockpile, it wouldn't be practical for me to pump directly into bottles for storage anyway!

@shopaholic: Haha - I think it's fine! Most of the registries I've seen have that stuff on them! I just figured there was other stuff I'd rather have off of the registry and I could pick out the 'boob' stuff myself :) Also, we have a small business and our employees and clients are having a little shower for me and I didn't want anything too personal on there. I'm definitely going to add some angel baby nipple butter or whatever it is and some stuff like that afterward for the completion discount!

I didn't have a pump on my registry because I knew I wanted to rent a hospital pump. I called my insurance company and the guy I spoke to said they wouldn't start covering any pumping equipment until next June, which is our enrollment time.

I didn't rent my pump until 6 weeks pp. As a SAHM, I didn't feel the need to build a stash right away, plus we didn't introduce the bottle
until then. I would have started pumping at 4 weeks, but I was on an elimination diet and didn't want to pump milk that might make DS spit up anyway.

I put all the accessories - nursing pads, lanolin, etc...on my registry and my friend was super-excited to buy a bunch of it for me.

My insurance only covers the purchase of a manual pump or the rental of a hospital-grade pump for 3 months. So I'm putting off the actual purchase of a pump until later.

@JerricaBenton: I know it feels weird to have breast and post-partum stuff on the registry, but I figured no one would buy them and I just wanted them on there for the registry completion discount. Do you think people get grossed out by seeing that stuff on the registry? I can just imagine my male cousins who have bought us stuff on there going, "uh, TMI" :/ lol!

I actually didn't register for any breast pump type stuff or breast accessories. I created an Amazon folder and the total cost was about $70 (not including the pump, which I bought off a friend!) and I'll just buy it separately. I feel weird having someone else buy my nipple shields and creams and such.

@JerricaBenton: That's how I feel, but if it's free I'm thinking I should milk it for all it's worth? :D

@Adira: You could at least add that stuff after your shower is over so you can use the completion discount!

@tororojo: I probably should have put some of that stuff on my registry because I'm definitely going to need it but... I just felt too awkward at the thought of my relatives buying stuff like that for me!!! I don't want them to spend ANY time thinking about my boobs! :P

I didn't put any 'boob-related' stuff on my registry. I'll be a SAHM too, so I just bought a manual pump. I guess if the time comes where I feel a need for an electric I'll look into insurance but I really don't anticipate needing one because I'm not really looking to build up a big stash.

@Adira: Ha, I feel ya on boob-related stuff although I did put pump, breast pads and lanolin the registry. I draw the line at bras, though--the other day MIL seriously scolded me because there are no nursing bras on my registry. And I'm like #1 my milk hasn't come in yet so I'm not gonna count on being a certain size, plus #2 I don't want people buying me bras! Nor do I want to register for them on Amazon, thank you very much.

My SIL actually gave me her pump, so I didn't put a pump on my registry. I actually felt weird putting any boob-related items on the registry, so even though I need new nipple shields and some creams and other stuff, I left them off my registry and just figured I'd buy them myself! Maybe I'm weird, but I felt awkward putting that kind of stuff on the registry!

I have a pump on our registry, but have been meaning to look into the insurance one this month since that's when our pump would be eligible under our insurance plan. Ours isn't free, but goes towards our total out-of-pocket expense, so in essence free, I was told. I highly doubt anyone will buy the pump for us off the registry anyways so I'm leaving it on there until I get the one from the insurance first.

I just took our pump and bottles off because supposedly insurance is going to pay for a pump. And I don't want to get bottles that aren't compatible with whatever pump we end up getting. They keep telling us different things, though! The latest is that we can order a pump from a medical supplier 2 weeks before my due date. And I think they'll cover the cost of a hospital rental if needed in the meantime. I really want to have everything at home and not have to worry about this!

Anyone else in a breast pump conundrum? Are you buying/registering for one just in case or putting all your hope in your insurance? If there wasn't plenty of other stuff left on my registry that I want people to buy, I would leave the pump on there, I think. Also I'll be a SAHM so I plan to pump mainly as backup, assuming all things (boob plumbing-wise) work like they should.
