@Mrs. Turtle: So many days of 5 am wake ups - we have 3 weeks until he’s two. Then he’s exhausted by 6 pm and wants to go to bed and the whole thing starts all over!!

@Mrs. Turtle: @Madison43: my kid had a week or two of wanting stories about her stuffed animals for HOURS in the middle of the night. And then yelling at me when I didn't tell the story "right." I seriously contemplated running away and joining the circus :-P

I think we are *fingers crossed* just getting over this hump with my newly 2 year old. She was taking an hour to go to bed - lots of screaming and “one more song” requests. At its worst, she was waking up at 4 am and demanding more songs to lay back down. So tired!

It’s a different regression in that it’s about testing boundaries. Stay consistent and it will pass in a few weeks. Although, if the tylenol works, then it’s proabably molars.

@2PeasinaPod: It's funny, canines didn't affect her at all. I didn't even know she was teething until I noticed white points!

@Mrs. Turtle: With DS1, his canines were by far the worst. With DS2, his 2-year molars were the worst of all of them. Poor gal getting all 4 canines at once. Ouch!

@2PeasinaPod: Thanks! She just cut all 4 canines in the same week about a month ago so I rally thought we'd have a little break before the molars made their appearance. No such luck. I feel a definite ridge in the upper right. 😢

@Mrs. Turtle: I just want to commiserate. My 2-year old is going through this right now as well, and it's his bottom 2 molars that are coming in. He was a nightmare last night and was not my normal, happy, sweet little man. Teeth wreak havoc on these poor kiddos and they seriously lash out. DS2 only has one more molar to go and then I'm done with teething FOREVER! I can't wait. Lots of luck to you and hope you all get some sleep soon!

@Dahlia: @Tanjowen: @Shantuck: Ok, I guess I should be happy she's doing something totally normal developmentally! After the fiasco at bedtime she slept till 5 then was wide awake. That's about 2 hours short of her normal. Ugh!

We had a terrible sleep regression right around two. Our son would go to sleep without issue but would wake up at 3 / 4 / 5 a.m. and not go back to sleep. It was terrible!

@Mrs. Turtle: Mine turned into a monster around age 2. We had also just moved so it was a combination of molars that took FOREVER to come in, the move, and a regression. It was a rough 2 months where we had to sit in the hallway until he fell asleep, or sleep in his room. He woke up all night too. Hope it passes quickly!

DD started fighting all sleep right before she turned two (she already had her 2 year molars). It would cycle between refusing nap, refusing to go to bed, and waking up at night (lucky never all three at once!). It's been 3 months now and she's mostly gotten better. She's settled on a routine of skipping nap MTW at daycare, short naps RF at daycare, and long naps at home on weekends. Falls asleep around 8 when she doesn't nap, 8:45-9 when she does, and wakes up between 7:30 and 8 in the morning.

When she was first fighting nap we'd try to get her to sleep any way we could (stroller, car) if the crib didn't work out. Now we just put her in the crib and if she falls asleep, great. If she doesn't, she plays in the crib until she gets mad (usually 45 minutes-1 hour). At bedtime we've had periods of having to stay in the room with her, holding her hand, singing songs outside of her door, and just about everything else. Now we put her down, tell her one story and then go to our bedroom where we can yell down the hall to talk to her and generally have to go back in 1-3 times to give her water, books, etc. The night wakings never lasted more than a week at a time, so we just went in and did whatever we had to to get her to go back to sleep and they phased out after a few days. Good luck!

@gingerbebe: She'll be 2 in a week. I guess this is it. We haven't seen any of the typical developmental regressions thus far, I think because she spent the first year we had her playing catch up, both with growth and milestones. She's finally healthy, 50th percentile weight, not getting kidney infections every month, and not having the stress of daily bio parent visits. This is the first chance she's had to be a normal kiddo, really.

Yes it's real and yes molars play a factor. My son teethed his 2 year molars off and on for months and it was awful.

Please tell me this is a normal thing and will stop?

O was the worst sleeper ever mostly due to health reasons and trauma. She started sleeping through the night most nights around 18 months. She's been easy to put down and nothing major has changed. We recently took the pacifiers away but even that transition was pretty easy. She's refused to nap for my wife the last two days. I got her down yesterday but it involved some serious screaming (even with me in the room). Last night she took an hour and a half to fall asleep and was up like 4 times overnight. She refused nap again today and slept in the car. I just got her to sleep after nearly an hour of crying/screaming/yelling at me to sing certain songs and then freaking out and screaming "NOT THIS SONG." I gave her Tylenol thinking maybe it's her 2 year molars, so we will see. She's been happy all day otherwise but doing a lot of chewing on her hands.
