I HATE that we do this (because it's now turning into a habit) but LO will, in the middle of a meal, tell me that she wants "up" and she takes her bowl and goes to her room. She'll eat and play at the same time. I want to teach her to eat at the table and in her chair but sometimes it's just easier to let her play and eat. SIGH.

I still rock DS to sleep and give him bottles in the middle of the night (at 11 months). I know he's probably not going STTN until I end both of those habits, but we've had so much going on in our lives the last three months (and probably will for the next three months, too) that I'm not willing to address it right now.

Probably sleeping in the carseat. I don't care what weisbluth says, we gotta get out sometime. I will often pick a shopping destination that is farther from the house so that he has more time to nap.

We don't do baths every day....and sometimes three days go by.....eh, whoops! We also don't do books every night. And we are introducing solids right now and don't do that every evening either! I work M and W at 6:30 so it has kept us from a proper nighttime routine. The only routine he really has is nurse in the glider, song, get zipped in his sleep sack, rock a little, put down. I honestly don't know how other families do the hour-plus long nighttime routine. Time is so strained around that time of day! Solids then bath then book then nurse then sleep??? My kid can barely stay up 2 hours so by the time we get done bathing he is ready to sleep. I am nervous about summer when DH spends so much time doing yard stuff at night....we really need to get this whole thing under control!

Yeah, I turn on the tv when I'm having an awful day. She actually hates it, otherwise I'd let her watch an episode of sesame street daily. I can't think of any one hilarious thing I do, but overall parenting has been a long exercise in laughing at all the things I swore I'd never do. Before she was born I bought a beautiful new volvo, and I swore that she would never eat in it. Hah!

@MaisyMay: I don't consider that TV time! lol! I have netflix on in the background all day long just to hear adult voices in the house (and to drown out the annoying songs from LO's noisy toys.... shudders).

To me, TV time is putting on a show marketed towards kids to distract and entertain her. So we don't watch Treehouse or cartoons or anything like that.

Bottle or nursing to sleep at night. Baby Einstein or Mr. Rogers while I pump/make dinner/"rest my eyes"... there are many. The AAP recommends a lot of things, but none of them are home with my baby, so I'm not going to follow every recommendation blindly.

What works for me...... letting my mom spoil LO whenever she wants to. Much easier then picking a fight with her even though I really would rather not have LO eat that cookie or let her get away without being in the stroller because my mom doesn't want to see her cry for two seconds. Really, those things aren't going to harm LO and it just makes life so much easier to go along with it.

I think all of these are brilliant!

For me, becoming a parent has been so much *letting go* and just doing the best I can in the moment. It has been humbling, but also rewarding. :)

@FutureMrsMcK: I also swore that I would never co-bed (hahahah - I laugh at my pre-pg and pg self sometimes!) . . . we do it now (or nobody would be getting any sleep), and I love it. :)

The other night DS got to eat dinner outside sitting on the tailgate of DH's truck. That's the only way he wanted to eat so . . . it was the first time he ever ate any kind of red meat for us so we were thrilled. I have a feeling we'll have plenty of picnics in our future if it helps that much.

@HabesBabe: Don't worry... both my girls had 3 naps til 10 months. My second had 3 naps til close to 12 months actually. Forget what the sleep books say! Whatever works for your family :) I personally loved the 3rd nap late in the afternoon!

ETA: oh and to answer the original post.. hmm when the girls get a little stir crazy and I'm doing a few chores, they watch some TV. But I don't think it's bad! I also still nurse my 19 month old at night... Some consider that bad, but I don't... What else? I'm sure there's more, but dinner in the tub... that's just awesome! I hate the mess at the table!

LO gets tv time. It's not intentional, but when I'm feeding her or when she's in my lap, there are times that the tv is on and I'm watching. I do try to turn her head away from it sometimes, but I also know that she's seen way more CSI:Miami than she should.

We were running late for bedtime on Sunday and I had both kids by myself, so I fed them dinner while they were taking their bath. They ate so ridiculously well, we've fed them dinner in the tub the past two days. Since Olive eats soooooo little (I'm talking a couple bites the entire day some days), we're just doing what works now. I'm just glad she's eating! She's about to fall off the growth charts!

Is there anything you've been doing as a parent that works, but is considered "wrong"?
