I've been getting pat downs. I'm probably being overcautious, but better safe than sorry.

My husband is a consultant and has many pregnant co-workers. They all flew every single Monday and Thursday for pretty much their entire pregnancies. No concerns from the doctors at all.

ETA: I've taken a few flights since I found out I was pregnant and went through the scanners. I'll continue to do so as well.

I have a follow-up question; did you guys go through the security scanner or ask to get a pat down? My mom (who's a little into the whole "everything has radiation" thing) told me to get pat downs, so that's what I've been doing instead of going through the scanners. Anyone else?

I did a fair amount of flying, with some long flights here and there. I always made sure to drink as much water as possible and get up and walk around once an hour. I also wore compression sleeves to help with swelling.

By the time I hit 32 weeks in March, I'll have logged eight round trips while pregnant, half of which were/are cross country. I've been wearing medical grade compression socks and making sure to drink lots of water, but otherwise not worrying about it. Three of the trips were/are to visit my family on the opposite coast, but I travel a fair amount for work too and I just don't think it would be strategic to mommytrack myself by opting out of travel any earlier than necessary.

there is such a thing because flight attendants here can't fly as mucch when pregnant. I am 95 percent sure it's 30 hours a month in the air. So it would an extreme amount!

I was still flying twice a week until 26/27 weeks pregnant with my first. I asked the Dr. whether I had to quit doing that and he said that it'd be fine as long as don't travel transatlantic (or too long distance). I did wear compression stockings for other reasons than the flights but nevertheless they really helped me feel better on the plane.
I'd say you're fine traveling at the pace you're going now.

You're likely just fine. The actual cosmic radiation you (and baby) receive from flying depends on flying altitude and solar conditions at the time of flight. It's mostly only a concern for pregnant pilots, flight attendants and frequent travellers (meaning several trips a week). With your travel, the risk is negligible, provided you slow down in the third trimester. You're more likely to suffer from dehydration or other discomforts, so drink lots of water and move around frequently to prevent blood clots from forming. I travelled quite a bit this fall, including a round-trip trans-Atlantic flight and I'm still below the maximum limits (1 millisievert). You can check for yourself online. I think the FAA has a flight radiation counter.

Is radiation a concern? My doctor told me you get more flying than in an xray. Maybe something to consider.

I would say you're probably fine as long as you're getting enough rest. If you're worried about DVTs you can wear compression stockings.

@Astro Bee: Just cross country. Now I realize that sounds international. Most of my travel days are 12-14 hour days with five hours of flying.

Writing from an airport...

I just started my second trimester. I was just assigned my third business trip of the month. It sucks because I usually travel about every other month but I know it will even out since I won't be traveling much third trimester and not at all on maternity leave.

Some coworkers are telling me I'm traveling too much. I don't think I am at this point yet but what is too much? Were you told by a doctor to limit air travel? I asked my doctor and she gave me a vague answer about trying not to travel too much and work too hard. I didn't find that very helpful.
