@babynumber1: I can put him to sleep in the carseat but I can't count on him falling asleep on the way....daycare is on our street. I forgot to mention that part! I know! I'm just hoping he changes things up in terms of a later wake time soon : )

@winniebee: napping on the way to daycare isn't a bad idea. I would let him babble in the crib, as long as he isn't fussing. We let our LO (also 5 months) babble in the crib for a bit in the morning.

As soon as you get the whole mess figured out, he will change it on you again!

@Goldilocks1107: I might have to resort to doing that. Even if he sleeps til 6:30 he'll be ready for a nap basically right when he gets to daycare!

@yoursilverlining: He usually sleeps 7-3 or so and then eats and goes back to sleep until 5. He's only slept 7-5 once!

ETA: He's 5 months old!

If he sleeps through the night - can you do this last feed a little bit later? When we do our LO's last feed at 10pm, she sleeps thru until 6am. If we do it at 9pm; she wakes up in the 5am hour.

We usually put our LO down around 7:30/8pm. Sometimes she's up for the day at 5:30, sometimes it's 8am. I don't think the swing is a bad idea. One other option could be to put him in his car seat when it's getting close to "nap time" so you can just take him to daycare while he's getting his morning zzzz's?

@babynumber1: I've tried putting him to bed later (like 7:30 or 8) and he still wakes up at 5! Also, he only takes 30 minute naps during the day -- so even if he naps every few hours, he gets no more than 3 hours of naps during the day. I do think he is fine with 10 hours of sleep, but when he sleeps in til even 6:00 he is in a much better mood all day.

What happens if you try to push back bedtime? He may be getting enough sleep at night and is ready to be up for the day. Our LO goes to bed at 8 and wakes up at 6:30. She takes a nap from 5:30-6:30 otherwise she is super cranky.

I would try to push back bedtime just so that you could try to spend more time with him also.

Over the past 3 weeks my son has been waking at 5 am - sometimes it's later like 6:30 (which I'm fine with) but 5 am? Not so much. It doesn't work for my work schedule (daycare doesn't open til 7 and his max awake time is really 2 hours....and I can't really nap him at 6:45 and still be on time for work). Also, he's not getting enough sleep (he goes to bed at 7... I can't do it any earlier because I won't get home from picking him up at daycare til like 6:15). So, what I've been doing is putting him in the swing when he wakes at 5. He usually falls back asleep for another hour. If I leave him in his crib he coos and babbles but doesn't fall back asleep on his own. If I go in to feed him, he falls back asleep but only momentarily.

Is the swing thing a bad idea at 5 a.m.? Would you just leave him in the crib and let him stay awake?
