@gilmoregirl: Well I wanted to do it sooner, but then back to back colds I felt bad for him and didn't! I've heard from people (and now some PPs) that sooner is better than later.

This morning he went down for his nap ok, and then woke up at the 33 minute mark.. I went in and gave him back his soother (he spits it out after he falls asleep) and sat there with him. After 10 minutes he fell back asleep for another 45 mins!! HUGE win in this house.

If you can do it sooner, I think that's great! We did the RnP/cosleeping to crib switch all at once when I sleep trained. She was 6 months though, so a little older!

We never used the RNP, but Xander used to nap and go to bed in his swing (and then would transition to a bassinet after his first MOTN wake-up). We transitioned to the crib right around 3 months because I wanted him used to it for daycare and because he was going to be too big for the bassinet. Plus one of my coworkers told me horror stories of her son not being able to sleep anywhere except the crib even though he was way too big for it, so I figured the sooner the better!

@Mrs. Champagne: How did you decide to put him in the crib now? We're facing the swing to crib transition, and my baby's almost 11 weeks. I just can't decide when to go for. I think I'm afraid of messing with his pretty good night sleep...

My general approach is good habits are much easier to instill the younger they are...not always and not for everyone but in my group of friends those that put things off had a harder time

No real advice on the rnp. We transitioned from the rnp to cosleeping, so there's that :)

I wouldn't worry too much abt the naps though. Thirty min naps are so annoying, but short naps are unfortunately pretty common at that age. I think most babies start to consolidate naps around 5-6 months, so at least naps should get better then!

Subscribing because we are also rocking the million tiny naps pers day (45 mins long...nap consolidation where you at???) and need to transition her to the crib soon. She's getting too long for her bassinet!

I'd say keep up what you started. Hopefully, it will go better than you think! You've already completed day 1

Honestly, I don't have any advice except do it sooner rather than later. We did it right at 3 months (no RnP - bedtime in crib, naps in swing or my arms) and it took 4 days of hell but was over quick. A friend did it at 6 months and it took weeks. Best of luck! I stressed over it so badly and made it much worse than it needed to be in my head, like 90% of things :)

I would go with what's working until it doesn't anymore. Maybe stick with the RnP for a while. And as far as transitions go, in our house, the "bandaid method." Works best for us. Going all in is much smoother overall than dragging it out into phases.

DS is 3 months old. He just got over 2 colds so I'm trying to transition to his crib now that he finally is feeling better. Right now he sleeps in the RnP in our room for naps and bedtime. His naps are crap. 30 mins exactly almost all the time.
My plan is to get him used to napping in his crib then get him into his crib for night time sleep. I wanted to do this before the 4 month sleep regression.... Will this help?? Or should I just leave him in the RnP since it's working and switch him to the crib after 4 months? He did all his naps in the crib today (5 of them....) and they were all 30 mins. So no worse then normal. But he fussed a lot before falling asleep. In the RnP he goes to sleep quite quickly.

Thoughts??
