I don't know anything about belly buttons but my DH and I emailed our pediatrician a few pics of LO's belly button in the early days. Is emailing a pic to make you feel better an option?

L had one too, and the photo I posted in @T.H.O.U.: 's thread is quite early on. His got much bigger! By about 3 or 4 months it went away and now he has a pretty normal belly button. It's a little different, but anyone who didn't know would have no idea.

My DD also had an umbilical hernia early on, but she now has the cutest innie bellybutton. Sounds like most resolve on their own as their core muscles develop.

@keiki_mama: probably a hernia. Lo had one and it went away by 4 months. Ped wasn't concerned. It was about as the size of the tip of his pinky.

I had a thread on here about the hernia. The big thing we were told to watch for is to make sure the intestines aren't poking up in it.

Both my sons had umbilical hernias. My older son's became a perfect innie at 3 or 4 months. My younger son is Only 8 weeks and his has gotten bigger as he's gained weight. I'm hoping it goes down soon.

Out pediatrician said it's fairly common and not dangerous. If it hasn't gone down by 3 or 4 years, then surgery can be done.

That's what L's looked like, and at 18 month she still has an outie. Her Ped has always maintained that it's going to go in, but I don't think so!
ETA: Nevermind about pics on the blog - I only tagged them once :(

@keiki_mama: I think you'll be okay to wait! If you're super worried call, but I don't think it's dangerous. But again, I only know what I've seen - I've never really dealt with it first hand! But it didn't seem to be a big deal with the LOs I saw.

@keiki_mama: tough to tell with the cord still on. I know K's was a major outie until about 2 months when it started sinking in. Now it's an innie.

Looks like it could be an umbilical hernia. Not usually a big deal! I knew two babies with them and it went back "in" after a couple months. Do you have a 2-week appt coming up to ask the ped?

DD is a week and a half and I noticed her umbilical cord nub is starting to come off. It's also somewhat raised. Is this normal?? My DS belly button area was not raised.
