I WOH so we nursed in the AM and did bottles during the day. At 8 1/2 months, DS went on a nursing strike but it was very different from what you're describing. He would flail and scream and do anything he could to get away if I brought him near my boobs (I could hold him "normally" without issue). But he would take bottles just fine. The whole thing was angry and violent. So, just based on this experience, I think you're ok.

At 8 months, we nursed at 7am, bottle at 11, bottle at 3, bottle at 7pm. Maybe he's ready to space things out a bit

@josina: I'm so tired overnight I really have no idea! My guess is that he does nurse longer at least at the 5 am feed...I'm usually pretty full and he empties me.

Today has been a little better. Nursed at midnight, 5:30, 10:30 (after nap), 1:15 (before nap) and then 4:15....and then I'll just give him a bottle before bed tonight at 7. I wouldn't mind this spacing honestly....3-4 hours in between feeds is so much more manageable!

Does he nurse longer at night than during the day? With Ethan I've noticed on weekends (since thats when I'm home with him) that he barely nurses during the day unless he's tired and is falling asleep during, otherwise he just 'doesn't have time for that'.

E's strike started out with an ear infection, so it makes it hard to tell whats going on with the illness prior! But since with E nothing is wrong with him, we are chalking ours up to him just not wanting to drink as much during the day, he sips here and there, and eats plenty. The dr. I talked to yesterday said he's seen it with babies before, they'll either 'grow' out of it, or its their new norm, but there's nothing to worry about unless they're dehydrated.

@winniebee: is your Lo still having plenty of wet and dirty diapers? It could be that he's just changing his "schedule" but it's not uncommon to for babies to nurse less around this age then pick up the frequency again closer to twelve months.

@winniebee: We went back to offering very small bottles (2-3oz at a time) because we didn't want to waste the milk. I think it was just a combo of him being very active and eating a lot of solids.

@snowjewelz: agree! I'm just wondering if he's drinking enough overall now....only because I really don't know what he drinks! Pretty sure the 5 am feed was a big one....but who knows??

@winniebee: Can one eat too much solids?! I think going longer is fine too.. Maybe if that's what gets him to get "hungry" and really want to nurse! I'd rather him nurse less frequent but actually drink his worth, than nursing so many times but barely drinking!

@snowjewelz: I pump at night before bed every night and this week I've been pumping one extra session during the day. I haven't offered more than 1 bottle because the other day he wasn't really taking it well. I'm just wondering if he's trying to space out his feeds more....or if something else is up!?

My nursing strike was totally different, but I pumped through it and kept offering the boob (this was around 4 mo so no way around it).

I wonder if the scent of the milk is diff b/c diary is back in your diet and he doesn't like it? Doesn't seem very likely though... Does he still drink your BM out of the bottle too?

It's probably really hard for you to pump right?

R will be 8 months old in just a few days. He is EBF and gets one bottle of breastmilk a day (usually 5 oz before bed). He has been a milkaholic since day 1....rarely goes longer than 3 hours without eating (except overnight...he still nurses 1-2x overnight). We started solids at 5 months and he loves solids and around 6 months was finally able to go 3 hours between nursing sessions....previously was hard to get him to go longer than 2.

Last week he got a virus which turned out to be roseola. He nursed fine while he had the fever....but then once the fever broke and he got the rash (Monday) he started nursing less. And the last few days it's a struggle to get him to nurse more than a few mins. He's no longer fussy from the virus and is completely happy. He doesn't have any teeth but certainly seems like he's getting some. Also just about to crawl....taking some crawling steps, etc....just very nosy and interested in everything.

He eats tons of solids (BLW.....and actually ingests food because he has the pincer grip down well).

Anyways, what do I do? He just doesn't seem interested in nursing at all....even if I go to a dark room that's quiet he acts like he wants to nurse, will latch but before the let down even comes...he's over it. Today, he nursed at midnight, 5:30 a.m.....and then I tried nursing him at 8:30 without any success. (It's 9:30 now and he went to sleep at 9). I also don't feel like he's drinking any more (ounces wise) than usual that would explain why he doesn't want to nurse as frequently.

Curveball - I was off dairy for 6.5 months because of his reflux / spit up. I started eating dairy regularly 3 weeks ago and his spit up is completely fine and seems fine with the change otherwise. Not sure if this is why he doesn't want to nurse?!

Suggestions? Normal? Keep offering breast? Give more bottles?

Thanks!
