I use the stroller to shop all the time! Definitely not weird to me. I see others doing it frequently too.

This is so not weird at all. How else would you do it if you lived within walking distance of store? If I am buying lots of groceries I'll use a cart. However, I have a grocery store suoer close and often just take ŁO down in stroller. I've always just put stuff in the basket and pushed her around. No one has said anything to me. That lady is weird.

Oh I always just carry a shopping basket while I push my stroller. I guess I would worry they would think I was trying to shoplift. Our local store is up.tight.

i couldn't figure out how else to grocery for at least the first 4 or 5 months of LO's life. seriously, i thought i was weird, but i didn't know what to do. i finally started wearing LO in the beco so i could use the actual car seat as a cart because I didn't have a big basket. Which i liked because we got to cuddle while getting groceries so i did that until LO was just under 2 years old. Now he likes to sit in the grocery cart so i had to give up our grocery cuddle time.

@PinkElephant: I had another older man tell me I forgot something while I was using the self check-out. It was actually an empty cracker bag that I'd forgotten to throw away. I made sure to show him it was empty ;)

I live in a city and am not sure how else you're supposed to shop other than using a stroller?! Fold the stroller and stick it in the cart too? Sounds like your grocery stalker needs to get out more!

For the record I used to feel like I'd look like a shoplifter putting things in my stroller basket, but everyone does it. Maybe that's what she's thinking (it looks like stealing?) but still odd that she's commenting on it!

??? I'm in Los Angeles and see/do this all the time. I've even used my double side by side in larger grocery stores. People comment very nicely and always try to say hi to the kids but usually DS falls asleep.

I'd be annoyyyyyyed with that damn lady. Eff her lol.

@yoursilverlining: She told me it was weird to her!! I understand the shoplifting perspective, J hope I don't look shady enough to get those kinds of looks!

I live in a very drive able city, actually it's a little anti-walking. I've seen maybe two other women shop the way I do. It's a sanity saver, I need a break while she's asleep. If my Dh were home I'd leave her with him, but I can't. I dread the day I can no longer do this because the thought of those grimey carts gross me out!!!

@Anagram: That makes sense. I've just spent most of my life living in the suburbs or in drivable cities. The few years I lived in Boston I had my groceries delivered. So I've never seen anyone use their stroller as a grocery cart. But I can see how it makes sense :).

@ShootingStar: Well, I live in a walking city, and almost every single mom in the grocery store is using her stroller as a shopping cart, including me. I have stroller hooks that I put a basket on, and then I load up my huge stroller basket with the heavy things. I can easily fit 8-large grocery sacks on my stroller (4-5 on the bottom and the rest on the stroller hooks).

If you shop alone, you can't possibly walk to the store with your baby in the stroller, and then get a cart and push the cart and the stroller around the store.

Maybe “weird” isn’t the right word for it – like @shootingstar said, it just feels a little odd to me, personally. I did it a couple of times when E was an infant and we would walk to the grocery store to get out of the house, but I always felt a little odd when I did it.

The last few “can you identify these shoplifters” that have shown on our local news/police dept. facebook pages have ALL shoplifted via this method; putting grocery and clothing items into strollers and then well, strolling away with free stuff, so maybe that’s why it feels a little weird to me. I do see people do it regularly though.

That said, I think it’s much, much, much, much, much weirder to be all up in someone else’s business about the way they are shopping! MYOB!!!

I don't think it's weird at all. If all your groceries fit under the stroller and you pay for them all when you leave than I don't see a problem. Some people bring their own "basket" or bag to collect groceries in, and even if no one did I don't see how putting groceries in to your personal holding device is somehow wrong.

Putting them in to a purse would be weird to me. I think putting them under your stroller is different than using your purse where you keep your wallet, keys and other personal belongings. Your stroller basket is probably empty before you put the groceries in.

Before HB I never heard of people grocery shopping with their strollers and using it as a cart. I'm not a huge fan of it because I think it crosses a weird line, because it's your personal property. Kind of like if you were to put things in your purse to hold them while shopping. But I will say that unless she's the store manager, it's none of her business and she should keep her opinions to herself :silly: .

Also, I don't know about the rest of you, but my kid can escape the strap on the cart at a record setting pace. At least in the stroller I know he can't get out, fall on the floor and have permanent brain damage in the time it takes me to make sure none of my eggs are broken....

Honestly M is almost 2 and I still do this! Don't understand why she thinks it's weird. It's more convenient for me if I'm only getting a few items. When my husband come with me sometimes we put her in the cart but usually one of us pushes her in the stroller while the other mans the cart :)

So does she use a grocery cart around the mall? What's the difference if you are food shopping or not, people use strollers all the time.
